Hi, hello!!
We are deep in the throes of summer over here. Somehow, though, by the time this newsletter lands in your inbox, the Storey children (and their parents) will officially be just ONE MONTH away from the first day of school. What?!
Betsy may or may not have already placed a starter school supply order, while Kristin has made it to the final week of summer swim. She is firmly refusing to buy school supplies until August but did realize this week that school starts on the 24th—not the 25th—and immediately updated her calendar accordingly.
A new month means a new topic, and we’re diving headfirst into talking about marriage. Not in a “hey, listen to all our incredible marriage advice” way, but more in a thoughtful retrospective, “these have been our observations” kind of way. We tried to walk the fine line between being vulnerable—but not too vulnerable—in what turned out to be quite a conversation.
We will be back next week with two special guests (who happen to be related to us) to continue our discussion. Same questions, but from their POVs. Should be a time. We can’t wait.

BKS: We had a great vacation last week on the west coast of Florida. I compiled a list of all of our pool/beach/vacay MVPs that you can check out here if you are traveling soon or just need an update to your summer essentials. This week we have the big state swim meet (qualifying times required), which means we’re hotel-living for a couple of days and keeping people’s spirits high with frequent visits to the concession stand. We’ve already had one day with some incredible swims from our girl and are excited to cheer her on in a few more races. In book news, I’m finally starting The Calamity Club after finishing this. We have a fun little discussion going on over in the chat about our current reads if you want to join in.
KNW: Summer is summering in North Carolina, and we’ve spent the last few days hiding inside from the insanely egregious temperatures. God bless Kids Bowl Free. We do have to get through our big City Swim Meet tomorrow morning, in the aforementioned egregious weather. I panic-purchased a few new fidget toys (this, this, this, and this) to entertain the swimmers between events, a backpack cooler for electrolyte drinks, and some new sunglasses. I also downloaded Katherine McGee’s newest book, Ungodly Rich, to read in my downtime (ha) or perhaps tomorrow afternoon, while lying flat in the dark, recovering from the morning. We do have a few lingering wedding questions. Did Hugh Grant mingle with Simone Biles? Did everyone pee in the bathrooms at the top of concourse 113? What was the craziest karaoke song, and who performed it? We’re pretty sure we will never know the answers to any of our off-the-wall musings, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a few photos of the happy couple before the start of football season.
We’re excited to see everyone at the end of the month for our July Briarpatch Live. We’re reading Ella Enchanted, and we can’t wait to revisit one of our favorite childhood classics with all of you. Whether you’re rereading it or picking it up for the first time, we’d love to have you join us.
If you need us this weekend, we'll be somewhere between a swimming pool and the drive-thru line, casually admiring our freshly dyed eyebrows in every passing window. Now, if everyone could send up a little prayer that we actually wake up when our alarms go off tomorrow morning...
