It’s July 2026, you’re at home, with the news app notifications turned off because you really are feeling the fatigue of the lastest geopolitican tension.

It feels like the year has moved so fast that your gas-price concerns felt like they happened yonks ago, instead of merely 1-2 months prior.

You know not to check your portfolio every week, but it almost feels like your investment portfolio keeps jumping every time you open your brokerage app. Your money is doing well. Like, really well.

The second quarter of 2026 was one for the record books in the world of investing; the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed out June at an all-time high. The S&P 500 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite both delivered their best quarterly performance since the pandemic-recovery rally of Q2 2020, and this all happened despite:

  1. the quarter opening under the shadow of oil-shock anxiety

  2. Serious doubts about an AI bubble, and

  3. Rumours of rising interest rates.

In a more fragile market, even one of these would have been enough to derail the rally on its own. Instead, stocks pushed through all three and finished at the highs.

Which is why so many strategists are now using the same phrase to describe what comes next: a hard act to follow.
