In honor of National Poetry month, the Library of Congress recently made a trip to the historic Southwest room at the Main library branch to meet with US Poet Laureate Arthur Sze. Santa Fe is lucky to have such an accomplished and revered poet as a resident. Congratulations Mr. Sze on your second term as US Poet Laureate!

Last week we held our fourth edition of Santa Fe Story Lab in collaboration with Vital Spaces. This was our first time holding this event in Vital Spaces, a new organization in Santa Fe committed to providing low-cost studio space to artists, as well as serving as a community gathering location for public programming. We were thrilled to see such a turn out of artists, families, storytellers, Friends members, and more!
Since last fall, Story Lab has been bringing live story telling to the community every few months, and last week these six story tellers shared about connection, transformation, and the enduring quality of love. We learned how to survive lightening strikes, believe the unbelievable, and forge new paths forward.

If you’ve been with The Bookmark from the beginning, you know Margaret Neill. She is our incredible Library Division Director for the Santa Fe Public Library, and now a local celebrity! Last month, Margaret was a guest on the weekly podcast Conversations Different with Inez Russell Gomez through the Santa Fe New Mexican. Inez and Margaret spoke about potential improvements for the Main library branch, the diverse programming available, and the deep commitment our City Different has to our beloved library.

Día is a nationally recognized initiative that emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. The Santa Fe Public Library celebrates this day every year at the end of April with a wonderful community event!
This year, on Saturday, April 25th, 3p-4:30p at the Southside library join local author Nancy Perez Fugere & Illustrator Issa Nyaphaga for bi-lingual storytime, book giveaways, miniature horses, and more!
