Yes, it’s the heart of summer, but Nordstrom chooses to do something different than clear out its summer stock. Instead, they look forward to the season of pumpkin spice everything with a preview sale.
It’s all about that crave-worthy feeling of anticipation, and there’s nothing we Gilmores anticipate much more than autumn!
As someone who’s just like Rory Gilmore in real-life, last week I browsed the entire Nordstrom sale catalog and shared the outfits I think she’d add to her cart.
The stats? You loved it! So, let’s tackle Lorelai next.
What I love about Lorelai’s style is how unique it is. On weekends, she’s quirky and casual. At work, she’s structured and professional. At Friday night dinner and date night, she’s feminine and flirty. And luckily, what looked good in New England 20 years ago (from jeans to turtlenecks and boots) is so classic that it holds true today. This solves an array of fashion problems for fans like us. We don’t have to chase trends. We can buy something once and wear it forever!
So, whether you’re heading back to the office, planning a leaf-peeping getaway, or just wish you lived in Stars Hollow, you can get Lorelai’s aesthetic for less right now.
One of the most iconic outfits Lorelai Gilmore wore during season one of Gilmore Girls was the laundry day cowgirl outfit that inspired Rory to ask if the rodeo was in town.
And, believe it or not, Nordstrom’s anniversary sale has a cowgirl t-shirt! Pair it with modern denim cutoffs, and trade the costume-y cowboy boots for a Western bootie that’s far more wearable. Grab your hobo bag (a popular style both then and now) and go!
On cooler days around Stars Hollow, Lorelai opts for cozier, classic styles, but she still adds a dose of whimsy, which Kirk would agree “goes with everything.”

Lorelai Gilmore wears flared jeans— a “long and lean” style that was so popular in the aughts. These have the aesthetic, updated, and pair well with boots, which are so common in New England.
That said, the booties and hobo bag still work here.
Optional accessories are a headband (how I think her hair looks prettiest) and a leather/shearling jacket (two fabrics she wears so often, in a cut she also likes).
At the Dragonfly Inn, Lorelai always looks put together— business casual with added oomph that says, “I’m in charge around here.”
Blue is Lorelai Gilmore’s favorite color, and it matches her favorite thing (snow), so let’s build the wintry color into this look.
Both icy blue and high necks bring out Lorelai’s features, so this sleeveless funnel neck sweater is the perfect layering piece for her closet. Again, she loves leather, so this A-line faux leather skirt is another great basic to get her aesthetic. Pair them with knee-high boots. These, which I own, are waterproof for her beloved snow-smelling days.

So often, she opted for silky and lacy fabrics in an hourglass silhouette, which this maxi dress perfectly matches. Swap the boots for classic pumps, and you’re off!
We all have our favorite Lorelai Gilmore looks. Some prefer more quirky vibes, like her graphic tees. To me, she’s most beautiful in wintry layers, with a snowy backdrop, of course. But I also swoon over her business casual style. She truly perfects workwear.
