Hello friends, welcome to another batch of Fresh Donuts! Spring is busy springing, and the plants are stretching their leaves and waking up to the warmth. Every morning I walk around whispering encouragement to them - it’s not much, but it’s honest work.
I suppose we all try to find fulfillment where we can, which leads me to this comic…

One of my favorite things in the world is perusing old photographs. I don’t know why – maybe it’s my love of dated interiors, awkward compositions, plain old nostalgia, or maybe getting a glimpse at the universal experience of life. Either way, it’s great fun, and usually an excellent source of inspiration.
Amongst all the searching, certain things pop up again and again: one of my favorites is the ultimate milestone marker – the photo with the birthday cake.
You know what Picasso said: good artists copy, great artists steal from dated photos.
If this sort of thing piques your interest, you’ll probably like this short article about the photographer Rick Olivier who went around taking polaroids of people and their azaleas. It’s heart warming and lovely, and even has a Louis Armstrong track about the wonderful azalea. (ed. note : I am patiently waiting to see if my own fledgling azalea bush will come back to life this spring, it’s pretty brown and crunchy.)
