Rachel Karten wrote this article about how much creating a social series actually costs. I am pleasantly surprised by how many Free Puppies Creative clients are asking for these. Like it or not, vertical and micro shows are here — I mean, Roomies season two premiered at freaking Sundance — so let’s embrace it as an opportunity to get paid to write what is essentially TV, and of course, let’s be real now, try writing ourselves into the show.

If you’re new here: I spent a long time doing very stupid jobs I wasn’t very good at to pay the bills, while doing and writing comedy for free in the margins of my day and night. It wasn’t a good system and left me broke and burned out.
So, no need to do that! Here’s a round-up of “comedy people jobs”. Meaning, paid open roles that I feel confident comedy writers could easily do.

🚨 Netflix has an Expression of Interest open for its Animation Incubator. "Expression of interest" means no job exists yet, but they're collecting names for when one does, and you want to be on that list before you need to be. Los Angeles. Apply here
🚨 Creative Artists Agency opened a New York Talent Community posting: same idea, a pipeline rather than a role. Better than the mailroom, and that worked for Mike and Sully. Apply here
Reilly Talent wants a comedy videographer and script writer to “work directly with Adam” part-time for $20/hour. Adam, who? You may ask. I did. Sandler? Ray? The one from the Bible? No, no, no. It’s Adam Milardovic, a comedy creator they manage with over 11 million followers whose brand partners include Sony and Paramount. They are looking for 3 to 4 days a week, on-site in Los Angeles. Sounds fun! Specifically, they say, “If you love short-form comedy and want to work on content that reaches millions of people every week, send us your work.” Here’s more about Adam, and here’s a link to apply.
🚨 The San Francisco Standard has an Open Call for Creators, paying $300–$1,000 per piece. They say they're "building what local news looks like on video, on social, and in culture — not just in articles," i.e.they've noticed nobody reads articles. San Francisco. Apply here
Here’s another Microdrama Screenwriting job. This one is for “Live Action Microdramas,” for a company called Col Group Co, and only asks for two years of writing experience. No rate listed (boo), and it’s in Glendale, CA (D. not enough information to boo)
Here’s where it gets weird. Just below that is an “AI Microdrama Screenwriter” position, for the same company, for $60K-$90K a year + benefits. A comic and creator in our client writers’ room last week shared a horror story about microdramas and AI porn, so read that contract carefully. Apply here, if you dare.
🚨 Someone in Ashburn, Virginia is looking for a Crowdfunding Campaign & Marketing Manager for their independent short film, The Heron. It's already shot; they need $15,000 to finish post and get it to festivals. Under "company," the listing says, "There is no company. Independent." As long as they don’t ask you to crowdfund your paycheck. Remote, contract. Apply here
