The times we are living through are overwhelming. We wake up every day and have to function as if life is not different, go to work, go to school, pay bills, take care of family, so on and so forth. If you feel anything like I do it seems “wrong” somehow and incredibly difficult to say the least.
Just about everyday I hear “Self-care”, “Stop doom-scrolling” , “Careful you don’t burn yourself out”. Great advice. So let’s say you follow all the advice, take time off from the “work” and you aren’t able to do it. You want to sleep, can’t, you ignore your phone, you make plans to just be with friends and family, you meditate, you do it all but your brain has other ideas. You make those plans to just go hang out, go to the pub, maybe pop some popcorn and watch a movie, shit, just take a nap and none of it goes as planned. You see a scene that strikes a cord, tears, laying down your brain just keeps chattering on, your spending time with those close to you and some one says something that triggers you. If you’re in it, you’re in it.
I am actually envious of those that can box it all up in the moment and do what they have to do. I am not so “lucky”. Couple that inability to shut it up for a minute with what I call “survival guilt”.
"Survival Guilt"

This is one of those ramblings that if you understand it, you understand it and honestly it would be nice to not feel alone with this one.
I wrote this in Sept last year, guess what I am active as hell and that guilt hasn’t subsided, if anything it’s in sharper focus.
I am struggling with how and where to spend my energy some days, but I won’t stop fighting. With all the stress and downheartedness, I have also found joy and folks that are definitely my tribe. I see the true heart of the majority of us. We want peace for others as much as ourselves, if not more so. From the Twin Cities, to Chicago, in every corner of the country, even across the globe people are rising up and saying enough is enough.
So how do we find peace of mind in these times, I don’t have that answer. I do know that I am not alone, and I see the love and compassion from so many folks , these are the things that keep me going. It’s not the “wins” those feel good and fuel us to keep going, but I really think it’s seeing that humans can be GOOD!
So find that peace when and where you can in these times and FIGHT ON!
Step Up, Speak Out and Stand Together!
None of us are Free until ALL of us are Free!
Thank you if you made it to the end! Love in Solidarity!
