Travis here with a no-BS update on Dr. Barry's that might force you to rethink how you evaluate your own products.
I've been analyzing our April numbers, and they tell a fascinating story:
Revenue DOWN 25% ($15,000 vs $20,400 in March)
Profit UP 60% ($4,500 vs $2,800)
Most business owners would panic at the revenue drop, but let me tell you why I'm actually sleeping better at night despite it.
Here's the reality check: our subscription count on Amazon has been steadily declining since mid-March - from 288 to 234 subscribers.
This is THE most important metric for supplement brands. With a truly effective supplement, subscriptions only go one way: UP.
When subscriptions start dropping, it tells you something fundamental: your product isn't creating the repeat experience customers want, regardless of what your marketing says.
Add to this our review average slipping to 3.7 stars (which Amazon displays as 3.5), and the writing was on the wall.
Once we accepted reality, the path forward became obvious:
Cut advertising waste: Slashed Google ad spend from $4,300 to $2,000 (which explains the higher profits)
Leverage strength areas: Shifted Reflux Essentials focus to our Shopify store where reviews are excellent (primarily 5-stars, with some 4s and 3s)
New product focus: Fast-tracking our liver supplement launch (Total Liver) where we'll implement our perpetual sales machine strategy from day one
Our Shopify store is already showing promising signs - up 42% month-to-date in May with consistent $100+ daily revenue.
Meanwhile, we're letting our Amazon listings generate their modest $500-1,000 weekly profit with minimal investment until our new product gets traction.
When you spot declining core metrics (especially repeat purchases), don't keep throwing good money after bad. Pivot quickly, cut losses, and reallocate resources to areas with better fundamentals.
What core metrics are you tracking in your business? Are you watching the right ones?
Until next time,
Travis
P.S. We're launching our liver supplement by the end of June. The formula is specifically designed for detox support with clinically-effective dosages of milk thistle, NAC, and other proven ingredients. If you want the detailed breakdown of our perpetual sales machine launch strategy, hit reply with "PSM" and I'll share our exact process.
