it also baffles me to see several different people in the notes, when trying to explain why they are voting for martha instead of thirteen, inadvertently mention some variation of “well thirteen was badly written” as if that somehow makes character-directed misogyny more understandable or justified. blaming bad writing on the female character is literally the oldest trick in the book! it’s just disheartening to see even the people in this tournament repeat the rhetoric that thirteen’s era was somehow Uniquely Bad; martha had to suffer through a lot of racist writing and I still love her, just as I find thirteen a compelling incarnation of the doctor even if I am not a big fan of the material she was given you can vote for whoever you want, you don’t have to re-participate in fandom misogyny to do so

while not a trans character in the traditional sense since the doctor is, you know, an alien, I do think that a lot of the misogyny directed towards the thirteenth doctor is a result of her “daring” to transgress the gender boundary of a character that has been played by male actors since its conception I think martha and thirteen both deserves to win, it just hurts me to see thirteen lose by such a big margin

Propaganda for my pookie Boa Hancock since we can still send propaganda even when they’re out of the running: My queen my pirate empress my Medusa-coded snake princess most gorgeous girl ever. She’s one of the strongest women in-universe, ruler of an all-woman warrior nation and WILL fuck up any man who looks at her the wrong way by turning him to stone. She’s been through so many horrors and as a result hides her true, happier personality behind a cold uncaring facade, which a lot of fans just see as her having a horrible attitude and hate her for it, but it’s a front she puts up because she’s afraid of being seen as weak!!! This fandom disrespects her so much, whether by referring to her with derogatory nicknames or calling her ugly because they can’t stand that she’s canonically hotter than their waifu (a stock phrase of this fandom is “[X female character] is so much more beautiful than Hancock!” like so many people cannot praise their faves without tearing Hancock down), or downplaying how strong she is in powerscaling debates, or even worse, making fun of her past trauma (which, while left ambiguous in canon, is widely assumed by a lot of fans to have been sexual assault. So people are mocking her for being a potential rape victim). The hate for her looks even more ridiculous when you consider that One Piece is full of male villains who have committed far worse atrocities than she ever did and yet those male villains are beloved and don’t get a fraction of the hate she does because they’re hot white men. Hancock my queen if I could save you from these morons I would!!!! Also, she’s just fabulous with an impeccable fashion sense 😌✨

All the women from Ready or Not 2. There’s one white guy who’s apparently played by some guy who’s also on The Pitt and the tag is so fucking overrun with him. The main characters are two sisters. There are other women, including white guy’s sister in supporting roles. But in the tag there’s nothing but gifsets and xreader fic and photos of this one fucking guy. There are gifsets were SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR is cut out of the frame to center this dude. He’s not interesting. He’s a rape-y misogynist who does pretty much nothing but terrorize the women. The only good thing he did the whole movie was die. Meanwhile there are a bunch of far more interesting women (however I will say that the women of color get a lot less screen time and development.) The central relationship is between two sisters who have been estranged for years and how they snarl against each other but ultimately come together and support each other to get out of this horrible situation is so nice and I love them both. There’s so much you could dig into with Ursula’s- well everything. She’s just as ruthless as her brother but she’s obviously (and rightfully) wary of him. In her last scene when she’s pleading with Grace she seems sincere and it’s so well acted. Like I said the women of color are much less developed but even with what little we get if them I love Francesca and Wan Chen Xing. Free them all!

Stefani from Final Destination Bloodlines! She’s the main character who does everything in her power to save her family from their horrible fate. She’s so tragic and well acted but if you go into the tag it’s nothing but but one of the white guys; xreader fics, gifsets, art-its all him. I’ve seen ship art of him and his brother like people will find any way to focus on some white dudes before even thinking of a woman. Also important to note that Stefani and her brother are biracial. I’ve seen so much about how their two white cousins are so tragic (also these two guys have a sister who dies first and I hardly see her mentioned in posts like this.) and how eric tried so hard to save his brother but Stefani literally did the same thing. The whole movie her main goal is to keep her family from dying, even when they (understandably) initially didn’t believe her and were angry and mocking when she was trying to help. Anyway the end of the movie didn’t happen she and her brother are fine and dealing with their immense trauma and maybe she meets up with Kimberly from the second movie to bond over being survivors.

One thing I’ve seen other tournaments do is run an extra “bronze medal” poll simultaneously to the final showdown with the losers from the semifinals, so there’s a third place winner too. Is that something you’d be interested in or are planning on doing?

For the 13 and Martha mashup, I wish to mention for any fans who don’t know that they’ve technically interacted before! In one of the comics, 13 goes back in time to meet the 10th Doctor and Martha, expresses regret over how she treated her at the time, and spends the issue trying to show Martha that she cares. People like to poke fun at 13 this issue since she comes across as a hypocrite here due to her later actions, but that kind of makes me like it more. 13 realizing she treated Martha poorly with the benefit of hindsight & then basically repeating that same mistake without realizing it is messy & human in a way I like. Also I wish for someone to write Martha/13 fic - explore complex topics like 13’s aforementioned hypocrisy and Martha wondering if this counts as getting back with her messy situationship if they’re technically different people (I apologize since I know this isn’t technically really propaganda, I just like both Doctor Who ladies a lot and this matchup hurts)
