Frank Hyman · Frank Hyman’s Substack

Had a full house when I last spoke at Mad Hatter Books in Oxford, NC (just an easy 30 minute drive from Durham). I’ll be sharing and signing my latest book, “Ripe Tomato Revolution” and demonstrating different tomato cages and other innovations to beat the bugs and diseases that can spoil your tomato-growing fun.

If you can’t make it this 6/20, you can buy the book at any bookstore or from bookshop.org—a non-profit serving locally owned bookshops across the USA and the speedy alternative to Amazon for book buying.

I used to be an organic tomato farmer and have a degree in horticulture from NCSU, so I rarely meet anyone more knowledgeable about growing tomatoes.

I’ll also talk about how to know if you’re green tomatoes are at the right stage for making the best fried green tomatoes.

And I’ll be happy to take your questions about growing tomatoes! Even in droughts!

Can’t make it? Here’s a YouTube:

link to my conversation about growing tomatoes with top expert Joe Gardener.

Turn an inexpensive International Beverage Container (IBC) into a 275 gallon rain barrel, that can even send water uphill without a pump!

Check out my directions on making this in Hobby Farms magazine.

And if you’re in Oxford for my talk from 2-3pm this Saturday, you could come early for lunch at famous Strong Arm Bakery. Many Durham establishments carry their baked goods but they also do a booming lunch business of sandwiches, soups and desserts.

If you’re into vinyl and other things musical, enjoy an Oxford trifecta, by also winding through OX4D Music Store.

Meanwhile, stay cool and hydrated! :-)
