Hey there,

After writing the title to this email, I realized how cool it would be to have a roller coaster based on one of my stories one day. But sadly, that time will have to wait. Instead, I wanted to discuss how Immortal Coil is like a roller coaster, metaphorically speaking. Or at least, that’s kind of how I had to approach the story when I first began working on it with Gerald.

Like a roller coaster, I knew where the story eventually had to end, and it was up to me to design the track that got us there. In fact, I often dreamed of becoming a roller coaster designer in my youth. I found them thrilling and exciting. Coming up with wild loop-de-loops, spins, and countless other tricks people haven’t even heard of before.

That, of course, never happened. I just didn’t have the brain for physics. But Immortal Coil is about as close to a roller coaster as a story can get. It takes us from a dingy nightclub, to the deserts of Egypt, to the museums of Europe, to the Underworld of Norse mythology, and beyond. I had a lot of fun coming up with as much horror and craziness as this Lovecraftian nightmare could withstand. So, although we’re not quite at the end just yet, I hope you’ll jump on board this penultimate issue as the Immortal Coil roller coaster continues to build steam.

I’m a huge Rorschach fan. I think he’s the most interesting part of Watchmen. The expanded media surrounding him, however, has not been great. This is no exception. There’s some nice comic book storytelling in this overly large series, but it’s not Rorschach and really has nothing to do with the character at all. It’s a completely original story that I would’ve liked to have seen King tell in an original universe. But oh well. Sometimes Tom King is just going to do what Tom King does.

This was a weird game. Very short. Like 90 minutes to 2 hours. Transference is a puzzle game that requires you to figure out how to progress through versions of an apartment fabricated from the minds of a broken family. Yeah. Kinda weird. And depressing at times as you watch this family unravel because of mental illness and the husband’s obsession to build the device that makes all this possible. It was okay for a brief afternoon of gaming, but I would’ve preferred a happier ending.

I like this ridiculous show and I can’t explain why. I’m a sucker for big monsters and the effects rival all the films set in this Godzilla universe. Monarch is also very smart about when and how it uses those monsters. The humans take a core chunk of the story and are far more interesting than their film counterparts. I don’t think season two is necessarily better than the first, but I’m still sucked in. Despite my wife making her displeasure for it known. 😞

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to check out Immortal Coil,
