August might be my favorite month. When I was a kid, August lingered. Not in a bad way, but in a dog-days-of-summer way, when you whiled away your hours at the pool and school still felt a lifetime away. Now August (like every other month) seems to zip by, but it still gives that we-have-time energy that disappears when September (hello back-to-school! hello fashion week!) hits. It's also my birthday month. If there's a gift to be had, it's remembering to linger during this perfect time of year: to dig my heels in the sand, enjoy a drink on the porch without a phone in hand, host friends over summertime dishes, or go paddleboarding or for a run. My August list is a little all over the place, but it's joyful things that honor the good, and stylish, life with a few birthday treats thrown in.
Happy Hosting
Any August hosting I’m doing will be casual, at a table that is outside, littered with seashells, and includes a s’mores course. Here are a few items that would make that moment a little more glamorous:
1. A serving platter from Porta.
2. The prettiest cloth for your end-of-summer table.
3. This would make such a cool centerpiece; I also want to fill it with ice and serve shrimp cocktail out of it.
4. And some salad servers to continue the shell theme.
5. These champagne flutes are so elegant (and handmade in a French workshop). My birthday is coming up.

Stop & Smell the Flowers
Our local farm has a CSA and a shared cutting garden, where Ruby regularly makes arrangements. What’s better than a vase full of wildflowers and taking the time to actually stop and smell them?

Play (and Rest)
I’ve been doing some early morning paddleboard sessions (with Ruby on the front of my board), and I can declare: there’s nothing better. Summer is my season and that means getting out and enjoying it.
A great suit for paddling, swimming, or just hanging.

September is for jetting. Let August be for lazing. I love my home and want to spend more time in it: setting the table, making a drink, or just lounging in an armchair reading. By the way, I’m really into this interior image that’s long been saved on my Pinterest. I can’t find a credit, but the pops of color are just so good.

A perfume bottle that should be displayed on a shelf. It’s so stunning.
Handcrafted on Murano Island, this glass may be too chic to use. Fill it with stems or breadsticks (if not a drink).

Another statement piece in black and white: a great little table lamp.
Technically a matcha bowl, but I’d use this for pistachios and leave it out as decor.
