This Friday, April 17th, the ‘static-oil-core’ trio Statoil will take over Mayhem for what is set to be a night of sticky riffs and repetitive noise. As is often the case with Mayhem events, information is scarce, but the fact that Statoil is performing is reason enough for us to recommend this event. Swimming Pool and Siamese Serpent will also be performing. Tickets cost 50 kr at the door, which opens at 20:00.
Saturday the 18th is booked for an exciting ambient techno evening at VEGA’s Ideal Bar. Coming in from the US are Purelink, a trio who have gained a solid reputation for their somewhat warmer take on the late-90s regrettably named IDM genre. Providing local support is Hasfeldt, who released the lovely Play Me Like One of the Others EP via Real Live earlier this year.
This year’s edition of Intonal Festival kicks off on Wednesday, the 22nd, at Inkonst and other locations across Malmö. With an increasing number of Copenhageners making the annual pilgrimage across the Øresund Bridge each year, it is only fair to take a closer look at the line-up. Nicolas Jaar’s label Other People will present several highly anticipated performances, including Alejandra Cárdenas (also known as Ale Hop), whose impressive first album under her own name, A Body Like a Home, was released late last year; Sary Moussa, whose Wind, Again was one of the defining records of 2025; and Enxin/Onyx, an electronic noise collaboration between Tot Onyx and Hiro Kone. Jaar will also play a DJ set under his Against All Logic (A.A.L.) moniker, and we are also looking forward to partying to sets by DJ Haram, mad miran, and Slikback. Then there are a few Nordic heavyweights, such as SHXCXCHCXSH and K-X-P, and some regional specials, including collaborations between Damkapellet and Agnes Kofoed Christiansen in “If Not Us”, and Erik Klinga and the Lyn Vocal Ensemble; as well as the Swedish trio Hey Elbow’s live premiere of the material from their new record, FLOCK. Retreat and Mutant Radio are hosting a free daytime hangout on Friday and Saturday at FRANK Gallery & Studios, not far from Inkonst.
For those not going to Intonal for the long weekend, there is an opportunity to catch a few highlights from the festival’s line-up this side of the strait. On Wednesday the 22nd, FELT is hosting an evening with Milan W, the Belgian artist behind the acclaimed 2024 record Leave Another Day, supported by the local tape prodigy Jonas Torstensen at Huset. Also on Wednesday, the New York-based producer and Moor Mother collaborator DJ Haram will bring her eclectic and charged take on club music to Loppen, hot on the heels of her excellent 2025 record Beside Myself. Escho and 15 Love have joined forces to bring the much-loved singer-songwriter Joanne Robertson to the unique setting of KLEIN’s Dansepavillonen on Thursday, April 23rd. While tickets for the evening show have sold out, there are still some left for the additional afternoon concert at 16:00, so act fast! I don’t know, it seems like a pretty good excuse to get out of work early!
On Tuesday, April 28, Ida Urd and Ingri Høyland will perform at ALICE. This will be the first time the Danish/Norwegian duo has performed material from last year’s beautiful ambient album, Duvet, live in Copenhagen. Hot tip!
On Wednesday, April 29th, at Christianshavn Beboerhuset, the viola player and songwriter Mika Akim (aka Mika Persdotter) is marking the release of her third album, Feb 28, with her first live performance in a new trio line-up featuring Tove Bagge and Tomás Gubbins. Also performing that evening will be Egil Kalman with his modular synthesiser renditions of Norwegian and Swedish folk music. Kalman released his debut album, Nordafjells, in November.
Finally, on Friday, May 1, after celebrating International Workers’ Day with your comrades, you may want to check out the Overtone Sound Collective’s intimate Dimmer.1 party at H15 Studio, starting at 22:00. The team behind last year’s Sonoluma Festival returns with their leftfield blend of techno, bass, garage, and breakbeat, featuring Pelzman’s live AV performance and DJ sets by Amazinggaijin, Tanfoolian Lukas, and Nat & Yoon. Entrance is free, but capacity is limited, so sign up beforehand.
