On to the next one...

And just like that, he was back…

Not that Dave Grohl (the most superhuman of musicians, who claims to survive on four hours of sleep) ever puts his feet up for long.

But the sight of our main man strolling on to the Coachella stage last month, trademark blue Gibson DG-335 guitar in hand, was one to relish.

Back up front. Performing Foo Fighters songs. In the band’s 30th anniversary year.

That’s what we’ve all been craving. Hopefully it’s the first of many appearances in this milestone year for the band.

And wasn’t it nice of him to do it during launch week of this very podcast too? Cheers Dave!

So, what next for the FF30 festivities? Surprise shows (festival season is on the horizon)? A commemorative re-release? Let’s keep those fingers firmly crossed.

In the meantime, as we wait for more anniversary surprises, yours truly has been squirrelling deep in the gig archives as part of plans to tell the stories of some of the band’s most iconic and revered shows.

Coming up on 4th June, we’ll have a special episode looking back at the Foo Fighters’ inaugural UK show at King’s College London through the eyes of several VERY lucky people who were there (last week I interviewed respected music journalist Howard Johnson, who was among the assembled press pack that night).

Also on the radar are the emotional post-lockdown show in Geelong, Australia, which came up in several conversations with the Aussie-based Foo fam (as Kirri from Foo Fighters Live tells us in Episode 6: “We were ready to let rip.”).

And Jay from the UK Foo Fighters tribute band has shared his surreal experience of the 2014 ‘Holy Shits’ gig at Brighton’s Concorde 2 - a night in Foo Fighters folklore that I’ll endeavour to explore further.

There are, of course, many others…and that’s where you come in.

From storms in Quebec, broken legs in Sweden to the loudest, sweatiest nights at venues around the world - if there’s a classic Foo Fighters show that deserves to be enshrined in the form of a podcast, do hit reply with your suggestions.

This week’s episode is one for the drummers.

Mastery behind the kit is, naturally, an important topic in the world of Foo - with three modern drumming greats keeping beat during the band’s lifespan.

So, it was great to welcome Boll3t - drummer of acclaimed California-based tribute band Fooz Fighters and an accomplished songwriter and producer in his own right - to discuss the brilliantly unique playing styles of Dave, Taylor and Josh.

The Brazilian-born stickman certainly knows his onions when it comes to the art of drumming. While you wait for Wednesday’s episode to drop, enjoy this video of him jamming to ‘Best Of You’.
