March has always been a time of celebration for me (plays March Madness by Future), from the birthdays of two of my siblings to celebrating the life of a dear friend I lost at a young age, and now celebrating the start of this newsletter (I reluctantly hit publish…). So happy 2nd birthday to The Artistic Agbero! It has been a fun journey putting these lists together, expanding my art knowledge and building this community. I am grateful to everyone who has subscribed, shared and continues to use it as a way to engage with beautiful art.

When I first came across Oluwasemilore Delano’s work a few years back, I was instantly transported to childhood journeys from Lagos to Ijebu, watching herds of cows line the motorway, so I can’t wait to experience her solo exhibition - ‘between slumped shoulders held the moon in waiting’ at TAFETA. This show deepens her focus on cows within the Nigerian landscape, shifting away from pastoral imagery into something more human, where the figures embody resilience and quiet strength. There is something striking in how they appear scarred yet full of presence while inviting you to sit with them long enough for the narratives to unfold. This exhibition is definitely one that rewards patience and attention, and I am excited to spend time with it.

Gordon Parks had such an impact on me when I first picked up a camera, he was one of my unofficial teachers. I studied his photographs and tried to replicate his style as much as I could (my Tumblr is an archive of this), so a chance to see an entire exhibition dedicated to him is one I won’t miss. Alison Jacques brings together a powerful body of images curated by Bryan Stevenson that feel urgent, human and deeply necessary right now in this show ‘We Shall Not Be Moved‘, framing Parks’ work through a lens of social justice, connecting past struggles to the present moment. What drew me to Parks’ work early on was how he used the camera as a tool of resistance to confront racism, poverty and injustice while still holding onto the dignity and everyday humanity of his subjects, and I am excited to spend time with work that challenges and stays with you

I was first introduced to Nnena Kalu by my dear friend Sadie Sherman, whose work highlights and celebrates neurodivergent artists, and I was drawn to how her practice is driven by movement, intuition and the body. This is her second exhibition with Arcadia Missa, which focuses on her Vortex Drawings series, and I can’t wait to see how the repetition, gesture and colour come together to create works that feel alive and constantly shifting. There is something deeply engaging in the way her lines pull you in while holding a sense of rhythm and structure, and I am really excited to experience the energy behind each mark.

I have come across Hurvin Anderson’s works in group shows previously, so a chance to see a major solo exhibition at Tate Britain is definitely one I am looking forward to. This exhibition showcases the full breadth of his practice, bringing together works from his early days to his most recent paintings. Moving between the UK and the Caribbean, his colour-drenched landscapes and interiors explore ideas of belonging and diaspora in a way that feels both personal and universal. His focus on spaces like barbershops and scenes from his upbringing adds a sense of familiarity, while the way he layers and reworks these environments speaks to the complexity and unreliability of memory. This exhibition not only showcases his evolution as a painter but also creates a space to reflect on identity, and I am excited to learn more about his practice.
