Seventeen Legs

I often think about all the ways our creative energy is tampered with during formative years. By well meaning adults, by media and commercial messaging, or growing up in environments where creative expression is not supported.

What if all of us are born with immense creative potential. Maybe the energy of the Universe is flowing through us more or less unhindered in those early years, and then all these various authority figures show up to correct us in our expression of that energy.

What are we missing out on, both individually and collectively, when basically right out the door we're assimilated into almost Borg-like conditions? Our natural capacity for imagination, curiosity and exploration, and the meditative state of losing ourselves into a creative process, is replaced by formulas, productivity, consumerism, insecurity, and death. Okay, maybe that last thing was a bit over the top. But also not.

What would it be like if that type of messaging didn’t exist in our lives? If instead, the seventeen legged cats were celebrated and taken seriously?

Imagine living in a world full of people supported in every way possible in developing their creative potential. We would be working on impossible ideas, exploring the unknown, supporting one another with pieces to puzzles of all sizes and dimensions. We’d be able to solve things that need solving by imagining a different outcome and make it come alive. Yes to that!
