How to create an Emo Hole

I’m starting with this picture above because it looks kind of the way I’ve been feeling in the last week. I’ve been caught up with practical life things and with a mind too fragmented to put a post together. But here it goes now. We continue. The seventeen legged cat is on the streets, in a busy downtown area.

Unpredictable. Uncertain. Confusing. Weird. Irregular. Ugly. Uncomfortable. Scary. Primal. Reminder. Complicated. Unlabeled. Effort. Ignore.

When we’re kids, our minds are still open to a wide range of possibilities. We’re drawn to things and situations that are moving and alive. We explore it without any particular attachment to what it is or why it is. We’re curious about the energy that's being created from and around it and how it touches the energy within our own beings.

It’s an interaction with roots underground and stardust combined.

But the world we live in is one where vibrant life energy is not particularly welcome and is even seen as threatening and suspicious. It’s outside of the norm. It could be connected to drugs. Or radicals. Or radicals and drugs.

We’re taught to become consumers and not creators.

If we become creators, we're basically forced to create and market ourselves within the ever tightening frame of the consumer culture we live in.

To stay within the accepted “normal” range we’re often directed to let go of creatively free associations and focus attention on objectified imitations sold in stores or as entertainment packages. Nobody tells us how this exchange will form its own kind of addiction and create emo holes inside. Nobody tells us we're about to get our superpower hijacked and that colonial forces have already begun their invasion into our body, mind, and spirit.

Change is the only constant. If creative thinking and doing is something foreign to us, how can we envision something different from what we have? Without being able to imagine alternative ways to live and interact with life on this planet, we have no incentive to change. We have nothing to walk towards. Intentional change takes courage, it needs fuel of all kinds. That fuel is especially present in creative energy and free imaginary association.

There’s a lot of good stuff being done all around the world. Groups and individuals showing alternative paths forward. But most humans who are privileged enough to have options are opting to ignore anything that threatens access to the drug needed to fill the emo hole; unlimited access to pink fluffy unicorns or some such.

The future is being created now.

Thanks for reading!
