I wanted to share this last month as part of the ‘preparing for a band gig’ series but I forgot. My brain was probably occupied googling bike gear!

It’s an oldie but goodie: 2433 straight-out-camera jpegs from The Minds of 99 at Royal Arena in Copenhagen way back in 2019 turned into a timelapse. My favourite part is the blink-and-you-miss it “we are in an elevator!” moment near the end!

This is really easy to make and fun, I highly recommend trying it! I set my cameras to raw+jpeg and shoot in slow burst mode so for every click I get 2-3 extra frames.

You can see some of the finished pictures in this essay from the arena tour. It was my first band gig at Royal Arena, and it’s nice to look back on a great day, and very obvious to me now that it was my first time in the arena and I did not know all the great spots.

I might do an updated timelapse at a Minds arena gig next year as a basis for a story on how I select my keepers. But briefly, it’s a bit like the timelapse, I go through the shots fast and I just press P (for Pick) in Lightroom when something triggers my interest - purely on instinct. If a picture makes me feel something it’s a keeper, if not I don’t need it. Gotta have that special undefinable ‘something’. The collection of my keepers then usually gets narrowed down so I don’t deliver too many duplicates of the same moments and only the very best. I usually keep all my initial picks, and then use stars and colors to narrow down selections for delivery to the client.

For The Minds of 99 I actually keep every raw file on my NAS and I have a separate Lightroom catalogue for The Minds of 99 going back to 2016 with every single picture (imagine that timelapse of 100,000+ pictures hehe!) I am not sure I will ever need these ‘reject pictures’ for my project, but I have them just in case! I am planning a book/magazine at some point in another decade or so. Anton Corbijn spent 22 years shooting U2 before he made the incredible U2&I book, my inspiration, and I am only 9 years into shooting The Minds of 99, so it’ll be a while yet!

November has been super busy with more than 22 gigs, and basically this whole year has been so much better than the past 3 or so after the lockdowns, some of those years them were shitty. Nice to see the universe throwing a good year at me. I am also really happy to be busy these Autumn and Winter months, gets me out and softens the Winter depression some, I really don’t like this cold and dark season.

Oh I also hit 100 subscribers this month, thank you so much for reading and spending a bit of your time on my monthly ramblings, I really appreciate it! Always feel free to hit me up with any questions or suggestions.

Here are a few of my favourites from this month.

DR Symphony Orchestra at Koncerthuset feat the DR Children’s Choir
Blaue Blume at VEGA
Blaue Blume at VEGA
Benjamin Hav

Kirill Gerstein at Koncerthuset, the best pianist I have ever heard
Elim Cham, incredible and animated conductor, a joy to photograph

Fortunately we did have some days with sunshine, it is pure bliss for me to get on a bike and get some rays in the face even in zero degrees.

I will end with a rare picture of myself in action, captured on stage by Lasse Lagoni, thanks mate!

Photo by Lasse Lagoni. I am trying to blend into the house, stage black should in this case have been stage orange!

Merry Christmas, and a safe and happy new years eve to y’all - see you next year!

The view from my window, the Christmas tree sellers really add some festive mood and production value to the parking lot!

Thank you for reading, feel free to share this with anyone, and comment or send me suggestions and questions.
