Roti Brown · Flavor Garden by Roti Brown

This is my fizzy, refreshing summer matcha drink that has replaced my three-times-a-day creamy oat milk matcha latte habit.

I don’t drink coffee, so I used to do a milky matcha in the morning and another in the afternoon as an extra caffeine boost. Now this has fully taken over my matcha habit.

Fizzy, fruity, fresh is my favorite way to drink it. It’s juicy, bright, and just so good over ice in the summer. It’s the bright spot in my day, and I think it will be yours too. Try it and let me know what you think.

  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder

  • 1–2 oz hot water (for whisking)

  • 1 fresh passion fruit or ¼ cup passion fruit juice (I use Ceres Passion Fruit Juice when I don’t have fresh fruit.)

  • 150 ml tonic water (about 1 can)

  • 1 teaspoon honey or agave, or to taste (I love using Brightland Orange Blossom Honey.)

  • Ice

  1. Sift your matcha, add your hot water and whisk with a bamboo whisk until fully dissolved and frothy.

  2. Sweeten your matcha in the warm water with 1 teaspoon honey or agave (or to taste).

  3. Fill a tall glass with ice and add about ¼ cup passion fruit juice.

  4. Pour in the tonic water and slowly pour the whisked matcha over the top.

  5. Give it a gentle stir or leave it layered if you want it pretty.

Little tips from a matcha lover

  • If your matcha tastes bitter, I heat my water to the hot side of warm, not boiling, for the best flavor.

  • Sifting the matcha makes SUCH a difference, don’t skip it.

  • Sweeten the matcha while it’s still warm so it blends completely.

  • I like mine more tart than sweet, but you can always adjust to taste.

  • Ice cold is the only way to go for this one
