The Worst Part of Luxury Hotels? The Guests

The worst part about luxury hotels is often the guests staying in them.

Bear with us.

It’s been barely over a year since our first official travel project for First Class Jerk. One year. It feels like four…in the best way. In that time, we’ve stayed at 40+ five-star hotels. Enough to know the difference between real hospitality and everything else.

At first, your eyes gloss over. The marble lobbies. The pool decks. The welcome drinks. But eventually that fades. Not entirely, but enough. And your mindset shifts from “this is impressive” to “what actually makes this place feel good?”

That’s the fun part.

Until you become a hotel snob.

Nothing is good enough. Everything needs improvement. The staff isn’t quick enough. The room categories don’t make sense. The breakfast service is a mess. You stop experiencing hotels and start auditing them.

The uncomfortable truth is that the same mindset that creates hotel snobs also creates the kind of guests hotels secretly dread. Guests who believe luxury means permission. Permission to be demanding. Permission to forget there are actual human beings on the other side of hospitality.

We ask others all the time: favorite hotel?
