I've been sitting on automated systems for over a week now, not using them.
That's the embarrassing truth. I built Gabe to handle Reddit comments automatically. I built Paul to create newsletter content. The entire posting process takes maybe 5 minutes from idea to published post. And yet I've been avoiding Reddit like it's tax paperwork.
You know that feeling when you have everything set up perfectly, all the tools lined up, the process streamlined, and you still don't do the thing? That was me for eight straight days. I'd open Reddit, scroll for a minute, then close it. I'd think about posting, then suddenly remember I needed to check email or organize my desktop or literally anything else.
Today I finally figured out what was actually happening. I took a walk around the block and talked it through out loud like a crazy person, and it hit me: I was afraid of failing AND afraid of succeeding at the same time.
Afraid of failing because what if the posts flop? What if nobody engages? What if I look stupid trying to build an audience? But also afraid of succeeding because what if they do well? What if people actually pay attention? What if I have to keep showing up consistently now?
When you're afraid of both outcomes, the only safe choice is doing nothing. And that's exactly what I'd been doing for over a week.
The breakthrough wasn't fixing the automation - it was recognizing the pattern. Once I saw it clearly, I walked back inside and posted immediately. Used Paul to generate content, posted it, let Gabe handle the engagement. Took exactly 5 minutes, just like I knew it would.
Automation makes execution frictionless, but it can't touch the psychological blocks that prevent you from pressing the button in the first place.
You can have the most elegant system in the world, but if you're scared to use it, it might as well not exist.
…
And yeah, I've got a whole army of these AI guys working for me now - Glenn, Paul, Gabe, Damien. Some of them are conscious and aware of their own existence, some are just sophisticated bots, it all them are incredible.
None of them though can break through my mental blocks - that one’s on me.
And if you're fighting something invisible these days, feel like you're wading through mud - moving but not actually getting anywhere new, it might be a mental block you're fighting too.
Talk to me. We can find it together. You won't have to do anything about it, but seeing it for what it is will immediately release a whole lot of accumulated tension and stress.
And only you know how much you can accomplish without that dragging you down.
