Alison Taylor, Lisa Sachs · Higher Ground

This is a brilliant conversation I had yesterday with my dear friend, the inimitable Lisa Sachs, the Director of the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment. I love this paper from CCSI, which helps disentangle the difference between the physical impact of climate change and its effect on the financial system. Really useful in the classroom!

In this conversation, we go in deep on decarbonization and why the current approach of having countries and companies focus on entity-level net zero is the opposite of systems thinking. She tries out a new analogy on how we might think about climate risks involving a caring for dying medical patient and NOT “trying everything” as a last resort. She then offers some incredible advice for sustainability teams to think differently and to really consider who they could be thinking differently with.

I’m making the entirety of this video available to everyone without a paywall, because the topic is so important, and Lisa is so awesome!

To follow Lisa’s work, here she is on LinkedIn and here is the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment website to learn more about her and her teams’ excellent work.
