Tasha L. Harrison · Filthy Fiction with Feelings

Here’s what I want you thinking about before you open the doc. The instinct on day one is to sprint like your rent is due. And honestly? Beautiful. Necessary. That’s how you break through the wall of a blank page. But you already know what happens around Saturday when you’ve been running on fumes and vibes since Wednesday morning. The engine cuts out because nothing was giving the burn any shape.

The fix isn’t slowing down. It’s knowing what you’re pointed at. There’s a real difference between “I’m going to write four thousand words today” and “I’m going to write the scene where she finally says the thing she’s been dancing around for six chapters, and it’s going to take about four thousand words to get there.” Same word count. Wildly different Sunday.

So before you start swinging today, spend five minutes deciding what the heat is actually for. What has to change in the story by the time you close the laptop? Not a page count. A change. A confession, a rupture, a door that can’t get closed again. Then let the sprint carry you toward it.

Write ugly. Write fast. But write toward something.

A house fire and a stove are both fire, but only one of them makes dinner!

Go cook something. See you at eleven.

xo, Tasha
