Five days, twenty thousand words on the table, and a whole lot of ass in seat time ahead of us. I want to take this time to get to know each other, especially if you’re going to be in the room with me this week. Introduce yourself. Tell us what you’re working on. Tell us what you’re scared of finishing and what you’re excited to burn through.
Every morning of the challenge, paid subscribers get a link to the Zoom room and a motivational post straight to their inboxes. That same link and post will also be sitting in the member chat, so you’ve got no excuse to miss it.
Live write-ins happen twice a day, 11 AM and 7 PM EST. Come to one, come to both, come to none and just write on your own clock. That part is up to you.
There are no replays. The magic of this challenge lives in being present in the room, and I want this space to stay inviting enough that people actually feel free to show up as themselves and write messy, ugly first drafts without an audience watching later.
I built this challenge for racialized, queer, disabled, and otherwise marginalized authors. All are welcome, but that’s who this room is for and who will be centered. If you’re on some bullshit, or you’re thinking about signing up just to come be a douche nozzle, don’t. We don’t take kindly to that kind of shit round here, and I mean that sincerely.
This challenge is built for romance (and all of her subgenres) authors and the folks writing romance-related content alongside us- bloggers, journalists, podcasters, and other longform creators who live and breathe this genre same as I do. That’s my house, and if you’re one of us, you’re welcome at the table.
Twenty thousand words is the goal, not a hard rule carved into stone somewhere. The real goal is dedicating actual time in the chair, hands on keys, showing up for the story even when the story is being difficult. Progress counts. All of it.
Don’t forget to grab your snacks and your drinks ahead of time! Ass-in-seat time requires sustenance, and a dehydrated writer is a cranky writer. Trust me, I make this mistake every challenge and end up DoorDashing… don’t be me!
