FilmStack Deep Dive has combed Substack and the internet at large to bring together some of the best advice on how to create the perfect lookbook, pitchdeck, moodboard, or image board.

It can be daunting to try to figure out what information to include in a deck and what you include in decks can vary based on the person who will be receiving the deck. A deck for an investor will most likely differ from the deck you’ll want to share with your cinematographer, etc.

Fortunately, you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

Speaking of not doing it alone, when you explore these deep dive posts please comment and include links of any posts or resources we might have missed.

Deep Dive was created to be a place for these posts to live as community-built resources. A place to learn, share knowledge, and come back to again and again as a reference. So help us build it. The more we contribute, the more useful it becomes for us all.

Have you subscribed to FilmStack Deep Dive yet? If not, you should.

As filmstackers we should all be thankful for Courtney Romano and her ability to connect the dots and her willingness to spearhead amazing ideas that will be incredibly helpful to us all. Like this NonDē Audience List, that we should all help build immediately.

So, let’s continue imagining — the ND50 filmmaker is getting those conversations started. They are getting connected to everyone in their area. They’re spreading the good word about the non-dependent films to come.

And then? They share this link with their community.

In every one of these 41 locations, we start collecting the email addresses for the non-dependent audience we’re growing. (The filmmaker shares two links, actually: one for their own newsletter and one for audiences to opt-in to non-dependent films in general.)

All filmmakers want press for their films, but many seem to think if they sit around and wait long enough the press to come to them. This is unfortunately in no way true and in this helpful post KLA Media Group, gives us ten things we can do to help. If you want it you need to take action, as they state:

It’s not enough to just make and release a movie and expect the press and the praise to come rolling in. You need to do something around the release of your film to make people want to write about it.

Call him “The Professor”, but Randy Greenberg is sharing facts, theories, and histories of why where we are now is actually a bright spot. Sure, jobs and hires may be down — way, way down — but there are new workarounds to help you get where you are going — and yeah, there’s historic precedent for this. The Big Turnarounds all come when the money is going in the wrong direction, doing things the way it’s always been done and not to what is needed or wanted (generally by The Youngs). Once again, the money is there and eager, but no longer looking to give it others to do what is no longer needed, but wanting to build it themselves — with your help of course. #MustRead.

I have identified more movies I want to watch than I have time left on this planet, but we still crave more and more movies, right? One of the great things about being alive today is we have no shortage of things to entertain ourselves with — and some are even worthy of our prioritizing. And yeah, it goes well beyond movies. And everything out there that is NOT a movie, could be a movie. And many of those potential films have no one yet championing them. If you want to build a sustainable and generative career making films, it would behoove you to start to learn to train your eye to the book market.

Lucky for you FilmStack’s Industry Tradeletter, The Industry now has you covered. They may be covering top titles now, but I think you can expect them to keep digging deeper as time goes on. If you don’t already subscribe, add The IP Scout to your list of reasons why.

And on a similar vein, The Ankler has been doing this for awhile, and their last recommendation double as beach reading recs:
