For a decade, 155 has generally been ruled by the same fighters. Trading wins, top tier fights, and making it impossible for new contenders to break through, lightweight seemed stagnant. Ilia Topuria broke through only to be put back in his place by Justin Gaethje. Quillan Salkilld took on Mateusz Gamrot in one of those breakthrough fights and it was a sight to behold. Now we have a new contender. Quillan Salkilld joins Arman Tsarukyan and Paddy Pimblett as the next wave of 155ers that will be the ones to finally break through. Quillan Salkilld’s performance was spectacular. He took on Mateusz Gamrot in his own world and shined beautifully. Mateusz Gamrot is a scrambly grappler though and though. Taking him out in the first round was a major feather in the hat of Quillan Salkilld. Having answers for everything Mateusz Gamrot presented was impeccable. Quillan Salkilld was in the waters but it was him who was the shark. The future is bright for Quillan Salkilld. He has nothing but bangers ahead. Max Holloway, Rafael Fiziev, Usman Nurmagomedov, the possibilities are legitimately endless. Should he fight up, down, or even in the rankings, whoever gets Quillan Salkilld next has their task cut out for them.
