The Next Shift Retreat is just weeks away, and we are deep in the final details, from creating conference materials to finalizing the menu. We could not be more excited. If you have not registered yet, there is still time to join us for three days of honest reflection with the trailblazing women physicians navigating the retirement transition, helping shape what comes next and passing down institutional knowledge for the generations who follow.
Champions of Change is entering its next chapter under new leadership, and we are excited to welcome our new director, Dr. Jennifer Mitzman, as we prepare to onboard the next cohort. Applications are open now through September 1 for medical students ready to build advocacy, leadership, and policy skills through the program.
We are excited to announce that we will be exhibiting at ACEP again this year. We will be featuring our redesigned RAFT modules, a curriculum built around the career advancement and equity issues women in medicine face most, from imposter syndrome and mentorship to disparities in care, family planning, and promotion and salary. Stop by the booth to say hi and see the winners of our Total Team Challenge. After exhibiting on Tuesday, we will be co-hosting a happy hour with Access Bridge, the ACEP Reproductive Health Section, and the ACEP Early Career Physicians Section. We hope to see you there.
National Grand Rounds
FemInEM is continuing to expand our reproductive grand rounds program nationally, empowering emergency providers with the education needed to treat early pregnancy emergencies with the standard of care. Dr. Kimi Chernoby recently lectured in New Orleans, Louisiana, reflecting our commitment to educating providers across the country. Interested in setting something up? My 16-year-old, Charles, wants to be a doctor. This summer he did a one-week program called Outset, where high schoolers spend the week learning about the path to medicine. They have lectures on medicine as a career, small-group labs on blood draws and suturing, and simulation sessions on cardiac emergencies and how to run a code.
From difficult shifts to breakthrough moments, from complicated cases to lessons learned, your experiences matter. FemInEM is committed to highlighting the full spectrum of voices in emergency medicine, and we’d love to include yours.
CORD Awards: Nominate Yourself or a Colleague
CORD is now accepting nominations for their awards, please note applicants must hold a current CORD membership to apply. This year, FemInEM is making it easier than ever to throw your hat in the ring with our FemInEM Award Nomination Interest Form. This form allows you to raise your hand (or someone else’s) so that our leadership team can review your profile and support you through the submission process. Our goal is to help you represent the best version of yourself and get your excellence recognized.

When Physicians Become Patients: CME Webinar on Caring for Colleagues
On September 23, 2026, the Federation of State Physician Health Programs (FSPHP) is hosting a 2 hour CME-accredited webinar, “When Physicians Become Patients: Providing Care for General Medical, Mental Health, and Substance Use Disorders.” This program addresses a dynamic nearly every healthcare professional will encounter at some point, caring for a colleague as a patient, yet one that most were never formally trained to navigate. The webinar offers practical, evidence-based strategies for building trust, protecting confidentiality, and applying fitness-for-duty principles in real-world settings. The program is funded by The Physician Foundation.
Research Opportunity: Help Us Understand Occupational Stress in Frontline Healthcare
The Occupational Neuro-Stress and Performance Lab at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research is looking for frontline clinicians and emergency personnel to participate in a voluntary research study about occupational stress, traumatic stress symptoms, moral distress, burnout, sleep, and mood.
The study is fully online and takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Participants who complete all study assessments will receive a $20 Amazon gift card. You may be eligible if you are 18-65 years old, work in a frontline healthcare role, can complete surveys in English, and have internet/device access. FemInEM’s four evidence-based model workplace policies, covering fertility care, pregnant physician scheduling, return-to-work support, and lactation accommodations, are live, and we’re challenging EDs across the country to adopt them (and also recognizing departments that already have supportive policy in place).
