No connection, just sharing the listing "...the Information Technology Specialist I serves as the Product Engineer for the Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform (DROP). So now that one of the big recommended VPN vendors, the one that didn't do affiliate deals, turns out to be a milkshake duck, does that mean look for one of those affiliate deals after all?

I would include something on how to let the legit ads through, but since Google's big "pivot to crime" that is getting prohibitively hard as far as I can tell 2/2

One of the Google founders is spending a bunch of money to fight the California "billionaire tax" initiative. FWIW, if you use Google you can put your own "tax" on them by turning off ad "personalization" (which probably means you get targeted for fewer scams, too) and de-enshittifying their search and YouTube https:// blog.zgp.org/click-this-to-buy -better-stuff-and-be-happier/ https://…

RE: https:// mastodon.opencloud.lu/@BrideOf Linux/117032484971564940 Interesting stat (although the % of Linux users is going to vary a lot, depending on bot detection methodology and on privacy settings by the Linux users)

Is there a name for the paradox where a space is _more welcoming_ by having and enforcing _stricter policies_ for specific problematic behavior? For example, if a user group or makerspace has rules on surveillance glasses (must be put away in an opaque container if brought on the premises) and enforces them, then the space is safer and feels more available to the majority of visitors? Sort of like…

The CPC squeeze is not evenly distributed. Most obvious for highly Meta-dependent advertisers such as Oddity Tech, which faces "higher user acquisition costs and low visibility into recovery after the advertising partner dislocation" https:// finance.yahoo.com/markets/stoc ks/articles/oddity-tech-odd-stock-fair-191251642.html

Meta ad revenue is up 28% "Conversions" (sales) are up 15.7% The cost per conversion (CPC) squeeze continues. (Cross-context personalized advertising on large platforms continues to take a bigger and bigger piece of every sale) https://www. adweek.com/media/metas-tepid-r evenue-outlook-undercuts-its-ai-spending-spree/

So it's looking increasingly likely that the People's Republic of China is going to win LLMs. Which means that in the near future the USA will swing back to copyright maximalism, hard—and we could get the equivalent of a SCO © case for many open-source projects that took LLM-generated code One-time amnesty law? Roll back to a pre-LLM version and patch to catch up on security issues? Sue…

The attribution cartel is in Digiday. Major browsers working together on an in-browser advertising feature. They're going to make it as hard as possible to find and turn off, so one more good reason to start learning the "enterprise management" browser features https:// digiday.com/media-buying/wtf-w 3cs-attribution-api/ # w3c # oligopoly

What ever happened to YouTube's "war on ad blockers"? Did they just give up? (fan theory: ad blocker users didn't switch to watching with ads, they upgraded their ad blocker and if that didn't work, changed their viewing habits. Main result for Google was more users of better adblockers that also block the search ads) # YouTube # adBlocking

The Linux scheduler does not have a built-in allocation of time slots to deliver and report on advertising—therefore Linux is impossible and does not exist (yes, this is a subtweet)

RE: https:// hachyderm.io/@astronomerritt/1 16923482380679113 This is a good point. Almost always, when a blog post uses an "AI" image, the text of the post conveys less information than the choice to use the "AI" (It's like "rolling coal" in a truck with a bumper sticker on it—the smoke says more about the driver's politics than the sticker does, even if you could read the sticker through the…

I wrote "last days of Fry's" in a blog post and realized I should link it to something because not everyone is around here and not everyone around here went to the store after it got...less good. Did anyone visit Fry's shortly before the end and blog about it?
