Update: House Passes Spending Bill 217-214

Tues, Feb 3, 2026:

• 2:10pm: HOUSE PASSED SPENDING PACKAGE 217-214 clearing it for the President and ending the shutdown (upon the President’s signature).

  • HR 7148 includes 5 appropriation bills ((Financial Services-General Government; National Security-State; Defense; Labor-Health & Human Services-Education; and Transportation-HUD) along with two weeks of temporary funding for the Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) to allow for negotiations on guardrails for ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) operations.

• 12:34pm: House Passed Rule in Key Procedural Vote: House passed the rule 217-215 clearing the way for a vote later today on final passage of the spending package HR 7148 that will end the partial government shutdown (when signed by the President).

  • Politico reports that “Trump’s call for there to be no changes to the package in the House helped quell an effort from hard-line conservatives to attach a partisan elections bill, known as the SAVE Act, to the rule..”
