Welcome to another Star Wars Feats and Faults. We are getting to the end of Force of July and have some iconic characters to add to our tier lists. Let me know if any of these characters’ placements surprise you. Today we will be analyzing Yoda, Mace Windu, Aayla Secura, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Plo Koon, Kit Fisto, Eeko-Dio Daki, and Quinlan Vos. Who do you think will end up on top, and who is your favorite Jedi?
Let’s Get Started!
Quinlan is a cool concept and great design for a Jedi, but he never gets his time to shine. Yes, he has some fun action in the Clone Wars, and he showed back up briefly in Tales of the Underworld, but he never accomplishes anything. He is always there, but that is it. We are told that he saves Younglings in the Obi-Wan live-action show, but that is it. He did not even revive Ventris. He brought her back, yes, but it was the mysticism of her sisterhood and mother that did that. Maybe one day we will get to see him in action.
One thing these Jedi all have in common is spending their prime in the Clone Wars. Ki-Ad-Mundi is in the same boat. Most of his feats come from destroying battle droids, as we did not get to see what role he would play in The Acolyte. I had no idea this species had this long of a lifespan and was genuinely interested in where a second season would go. I highly doubt we will ever get to see it, though.
Just like Ki-Adi-Mundi, Plo Koon was pivotal during the Clone Wars. One of the best pilots in the Republic, Plo shot down many droids. He was also a mentor to Ahsoka and joined the impressive line of teachers that helped forge who she is. Even though Plo was in a lot of episodes, he does not necessarily participate in every one. The Jedi Council appears as holograms in many Clone Wars adventures, but it is usually a Clone, Anakin, Kenobi, or Ahsoka that actually does the work. That is why most of these Jedi have high episode counts but low FN’F Scores. He did capture Boba Fett! That’s pretty cool. Was he a kid at the time? Well, yeah, but still.
The Mosyk Jedi master known as Eeko-Dio Daki is another Jedi of a growing list that survived Order 66. As of now, 28 Jedi or padawans have survived the purge and either gone on the run or become inquisitors. I believe George Lucas was quoted as saying there were 10,000 force users in the order and that 1% survived. In that case, we have been introduced to a remarkable few of the survivors. Looks like there is a lot of wiggle room for writers to keep making up Jedi whenever they want.
That being said, Daki represents what the order was before the Clone Wars. I mentioned this on the podcast, but he would be content to find a safe space and meditate for the rest of his life. Living a peaceful existence is enough for him. Unfortunately, he has been dragged down, besmirched, and forced into a fugitive status, where he will not be on the run. This constant running has kept his senses sharp, as he is the only Jedi in recent memory to get a hit on Vader. It was not enough, though. Womp Womp. Another Jedi falls to Vader, who could have seen that coming?
I was surprised to see Aayla Secura this high on the list. I think this placement will surprise a lot of people. The only thing I remember her for is getting blasted in the Felucia forest and being awesome in Star Wars Battlefront 2 on the PS2. The Clone Wars show gave her more opportunities, and she did everything she could to increase FN’F score. None of them are that fancy: destroy a droid here, restore power there, but she did not earn a single fault, and that allowed her to maintain her lead. I like seeing an empowered Twi’lek, which is why I’m so excited about Devon in the Maul show!
My man! Kit Fisto was my favorite Jedi to come out of the Clone Wars. I had a little action figure of him and everything! I thought he was so cool, and that cheeky little smile he gives in episode 2 sold it. His episodes in The Clone Wars are some of my favorites. Instead of a large-scale, never-ending war, we get to focus on one planet, Mon Cala. We get to see a civil war between the Mon Calamari and Quarren. The true prince who shall become king is also captured by the separatists, and we get to not only see Kit Fisto in his natural habitat, but also Jar Jar! I know, I know, Jeff K and I talk about Mr. Binks way too much, but hear me out. Jar Jar saves Padme by hawking up a loogie and providing her air! What a legend.
Speaking of legends, Fisto can dominate underwater. He kills a giant sea creature while destroying Grievous’ lair. Then he is even able to save the King on Mon Cala. He does his duty as a Jedi in war to the utmost degree. He may have been cut down unceremoniously by Sidious, but Kit deserves our third-place position.
Can you believe Yoda is this low on our Tier List? I was not expecting the symbol of wisdom to be in our Top 10, but a 38 FN’F score is disappointing for the amount of screen time and recognition this muppet possesses. If you think about it, it is not impossible to comprehend. When we see Yoda, he is normally providing advice or denying Anakin a position on the council. It is the animated shows where Yoda is given the agency to participate in the Universe besides training Luke.
All that being said, if we look at his feats, we do see that he accomplishes more than most Jedi. Yoda is the only Jedi that I know who was able to achieve enlightenment, which solidifies his Buddha status for the Jedi Order. For a Jedi, I do not believe there is a higher goal to achieve. He reached the pinnacle of his order and participated in one of the longest and most brutal wars of his lifespan.
His faults are what trip his little green legs up. First, in his canonical first appearance in the timeline, he sends a group of Younglings off-world and unsupervised on a mission. Remember, these kids are not even padawans yet. They are like what, five or six years old? I don’t even know how one was able to fly, but that’s another point. He let them go with a pilot who was also only six! What the hell, Yoda? Also, we know that he sensed Anakin’s love for Padme as well as the resentment and hate growing inside him. Yet what does Yoda do? He assigns Anakin to Padme for protection! I mean, come on, you do not sense a Dark Lord of the Sith is literally running your government in the room across the hall, but this is something that you actually noticed and encouraged. Shame on Yoda! Maybe he is not as wise as we give him credit for? You know what, I’m actually mad now, he does deserve that score!
In first place, we have the Mother Fuckin’ Jedi himself, Mace Windu. This dude does not get the credit he deserves. He is a monster during the Clone Wars. He kills over 100,000 Battle droids and is the reason many missions were a success. He cuts Jango Fett’s head clean off and does not even leave a scratch on his armor. Then, in the movie, when he discovers that Palpatine is a Sith Lord, he immediately rounds up the best Jedi in the temple and forms a kill party. While the rest of his posse dies, Windu actually beats Sidious. He had him beaten, captured, and dead to rights. Windu even knew he could not leave this conniving little bastard alive either. If it wasn’t for Anakin, this story would have been over a long time ago. That feat impresses me the most. Not even Yoda could beat Sidious. Only three people ever beat Sidious. Anakin, Ray, and Windu.
To put this Jedi Master’s score into perspective, he tied with Ego the living planet from the MCU and the first companion Ian Chesterton from Doctor Who. He even outscored the coldest killer in all of westerns, The Man With No Name from the Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western Trilogy. Not too shabby.
