We’ve been working on some of our other productions recently. With the script for our shocking stage play, #1 Wanker, now finished, we are starting to think about staging, costume and - recruiting a new actor for the lead role. And we’ve been doing some properly weird British comedy too.
But, first, the app update!
Our prototype app is heading to the Google and Apple stores early next week. It takes about seven days for approval, so with a bit of luck (and the algorithm gods smiling upon us), beta testing will start happening in the coming weeks. If you’re wondering how to get involved, I think this is now our third mention of it, which means, according to all storytelling logic, that it’s coming...
If you haven’t joined our Discord yet, check your spam folder for my emails—you will find the golden ticket in there, I have sent them to everyone who subscribes to this blog.
We’ve decided to split the app into two: one for those watching (whether you’re viewing or participating) and one for creators. The creator app will house all the AR functionality, so if you’re planning on making things, that’s the one you’ll want. And the viewer app will allow us to better manage subscriptions, community commissioning, and all the other involvement we have planned.
In other news, we had some very successful interviews with Lancaster University students last wee and we’re welcoming the intern from Lancaster on Monday. I haven’t asked if they want their name in this blog yet, so let’s pretend they’re a shadowy figure from The Prisoner until I get the all-clear. There’s also another student joining us for similar work, and I’ll introduce them both properly when I can. They’ll be helping with beta testing—yes, that’s mention number four, which means it’s now practically a summonable entity.
The testing itself will be a mix of functionality checks (does this button actually work?), device compatibility (will your phone burst into flames? It won’t, I promise - mine hasn’t, and mine is old and weak), and some good old creative exploration—strangers coming together to build stories in a social format, working out together what are the best ways to engage people.
Plus, of course, your feedback will shape the next release of the app.
And to make that next release happen, we will be launching a crowdfunding campaign soon, and we’d love you to be our ragtag group of rebels helping us take down an ominous overlord—except the overlord is “not having enough funding,” and the battle is mostly social media posts.
And finally, we’ve been creating some comedy recently. Here’s a few behind the scenes photos taken by Ellie Salt:
And, for your amusement, here are two sketches we have produced - a little light entertainment to brighten your day.
