Adam Bucko · Contemplative Witness with Adam Bucko

Dear friends,

I want to personally invite you to something that feels both timely and needed.

On Saturday, April 25, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm ET, Kaira Jewel and I will host an intimate conversation with Andrew Young as part of our Saints of the Beloved Community series.

For many of us, the civil rights movement can feel distant. For Andrew Young, it is lived reality. He worked closely with Martin Luther King Jr. as a trusted partner in the work of nonviolence, helping to shape the strategy and negotiations that guided the movement through some of its most difficult moments. He was present in the campaigns that led to the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, and he carried that work forward at great personal cost, including arrests and physical danger.

What has stayed with me is not only what he did in those years, but how that same spirit continued to guide his life. His service in Congress, at the United Nations, and later as Mayor of Atlanta was not a departure from the movement. The vision of beloved community found new expression in diplomacy, in public leadership, in the quiet work of building relationships across difference.

When you encounter him, there is a depth that comes from a life tested over time. There is a groundedness that does not come from theory, but from having walked through struggle and remaining committed to a way of love that is both realistic and demanding.

This gathering will take place online as part of the Beloved Community for Engaged Spirituality as part of our Saints of the Beloved Community series. It is offered on a donation basis, and a recording will be available for those who cannot attend live.

When and what time: April 25, from 11 am - 12:30 pm ET:
