It’s still Solstice week, meaning there’s still time to read my free post on ways to celebrate:

I am not allowed to stop working in the summer. How vile of everyone! So what I’ve cleverly done is make going to work a sort-of holiday with the help of a peak garden setup.

It’s not a holiday, obviously, that’s stupid. Still, the technique has proven productive, has stopped me melting, and prevented me shouting ‘It’s not fair I hate working’ but still expecting to get paid.

I spent twenty years gardenless, and one of the most shocking discoveries I made on getting one was how much outdoor furniture costs. Like, it’s bloody crazy, I could afford a long weekend in Mallorca, flights AND hotel for less than most of them.

Nevertheless, she persisted. There had to be places that were selling nice, sturdy stuff for less than six hundred quid. I found them. And through a few additional bargain purchases, I am now blasted on the daily with unreasonable cheerfulness. A parasol, for example, was £30 and makes me happy every time I see it. That’s the trick; colour, positivity, motivation, everywhere I look.
