Ep1,Prt6 —One for Whip, One for Stars

In TOYA: The Warrior Who Raised an Empire, I don’t just show the “Middle Passage,” I show the global algorithm of extraction that fueled it.

For more than three centuries, this cycle turned the blood of Alkebulan into the “White Gold,” meaning the sugar of Europe.

As illustrated in the exclusive Perpetual Cycle Maps above, the trade was a precise, cold-blooded rotation:

  • Leg 1: The Outward Passage
Ships leave the French ports of Nantes and Bordeaux weighted down with guns, ammunition, rum and manufactured goods. These are the tools of destabilization sent to the coasts of Alkebulan.

  • Leg 2: The Middle Passage
The ships disgorge their manufactured goods and reload with their most valuable cargo: kidnapped Alkebulans. In the script, we see the Amazing Grace docking at Okap, Ayiti. The Ancestors are branded for the whip.

But what the colonists do not see is that they’re also carrying their culture in memory, their Anba Dlo frequency, their ties to the sentient land and the Alkebulan spark that binds them to the multiverse.

  • Leg 3: The Homeward Passage

Once the human cargo is unloaded, the holds are refilled with the riches of the land: Ayiti’s plantation coffee, sugar, indigo, cotton and molasses. These are sent back to France to fund the very empire that Toya is destined to burn down.

At the height of this TransAtlantic Trade cycle, Ayiti was the richest colony in the world, single-handedly supplying 40% of all the sugar in the global market and 60% of all the coffee consumed in Europe.

But this profit-over-people wealth was a death sentence. The working conditions in French colonial Ayiti were so calculated in their brutality that the life expectancy for an enslaved person was a mere three to six years.

That Toya, and the women we are writing about, survived this machine for thirty-three years, long enough to raise and mentor the Liberator Janjak Desalin, is more than a miracle. It is a defiance of the very laws of the slavers’ colonial universe.

“They see a hold full of cargo. We see a procession of souls. They are counting their coins while the Old Bone of the land is beginning to wake up.”Toya

THE TRIANGULAR TRADE
They traded our souls for their manufactured goods.
Weapons to fuel the wars; Alcohol to numb the mind.
The machinery of the Middle Passage is still running.

THE TRIANGULAR TRADE
An over 300-year algorithm of extraction. Humans trafficked like cargo; Traded for the same weapons of today: Guns. Ammunition. Alcohol.
The commodification of Alkebulan’s blood and natural resources.
The same trade, just a different century.
