Costa Rica + Panama — Roughly an hour flight between San José and Panama City. Rainforest and cloud forest, then straight into a completely different Central American culture and the Canal.
Peru + Bolivia (Cusco/Puno + La Paz) — Connected via Lake Titicaca (boat and bus combo) or a short flight, letting you cross an international border in the middle of the Andes without much added complexity.
