I really just can’t help but think that we can blame a lot on “common sense” but totally incorrect and long-debunked notions about how science works—stuff like we only use 10% of our brains or that there’s the lizard brain and the limbic brain and the prefrontal cortex.
All of this stuff gives people this feeling that they know how this things work when they really don’t. I’d also put things like quacks and metaphysical gurus talking about “quantum” stuff in this category; it makes people feel like they understand something mystical but it has actually nothing to do with real quantum mechanics or anything related to it.
