My First Four Months in Norway

After years of thinking about trying something new, in regard to both job and place, I finally moved to Norway in January 2025. I’ve been meaning to post a small update here, but it took me a while to take the time to do it.

My 2024

I want to make it a yearly habit to think back and reflect on the previous year. 2024 was certainly a mixed bag for me. It was pretty much the worst year of my life in terms of family incidents. But in other ways, it was one of the best years of my life. I think I’ve been pretty good about looking at both sides, but it can’t hurt to actually reflect on the many positive (and the few, but heavy…

Goodbye, Project coli-conc

At the end of 2017, I decided to finally give up on my master’s degree and try to find a job. I think in my heart, I’ve known for a while that I wasn’t going to finish that degree. There weren’t many classes that interested me, and after taking about a year to finish my bachelor’s thesis a few years earlier, I dreaded to ever write a master’s thesis.

My 2023

Long time no see! I don’t want to let my blog die, and actually I want to post more regularly, so in this post, I wanted to do a little review of my year 2023.

Still Alive

I can’t believe it’s already February. Too late for a “Happy New Year” now, sorry about that. I hope you all had a good start to the year. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been active on this blog (exactly one year since the last post actually), but I’d like to get back to blogging from time to time. No promises though!

Rest in Peace, Nodoka Meditation Timer!

My Anime Note-Taking Strategy

Last summer, I started watching an increasing amount of anime, and because I quickly forget the contents of the shows I watch, I started taking notes about each episode. For a while, I did this consistently for every single anime episode I watched, while I was watching it. However, at some point I noticed that I was less attentive due to the fact that I was thinking about what is worth writing…

What I Learned from Failing the 100,000 Steps Challenge

On 10 March 2021, my friend Helmut1 and I attempted walking 100,000 steps in a day — and we failed.2 also known as Andy/Andreas (go follow him on Instagram and YouTube); also tell him that “Dr. Dr. Helmut” is actually an amazing online name and that he should use it for his YouTube as well 😁 UPDATE! In July 2023, we did another attempt, and I did it! Helmut, however, got a sunstroke and had to…

Escaping the Pandemic

Long time no see! Once again, I have neglected my blog a bit, but at least I haven’t been completely idle in the last few months. In fact, I actually went to Norway at the end of January! I’m staying here up north with my friends for a bit. My employer currently has special regulations regarding remote work that allow me to work from anywhere.1 Without a special agreement like I had for my stay in…

Digital Detox December

A few days ago, I stumbled upon someone on Reddit (ironically) suggesting a Digital Detox December. Since I’ve been spending an increasing amount of time on social media recently, I was intrigued to try this. I also don’t think I ever tried a whole month of something like this.

One Month of Daily Blogging

One month of daily blogging - what I originally called NaBloWriMo1 - is officially over. In this post, I would like to summarize my experience and what I learned from this experiment. National Blog Writing Month

Weekly Summary and Recommendations

The last week of daily blogging is over. Only one post left for tomorrow which will be kind of a “what I learned from this” post. So further thoughts on daily blogging in that post. 😉

The iPhone 12 mini

I’ve been using the new iPhone 12 mini for about two weeks now, since the day of its release. For context: I was a big fan of the original iPhone SE that came out in 2016. I had bought the 6S in 2015, but it was always slightly too big for my taste. Back then, I thought the SE was perfect: Same internals as the 6S, but with the body of the 5 line. I loved that phone and it was definitely my…

2021 Travel Destinations

I had big plans for traveling in 2020, but you can imagine how that turned out. Apart from being in Japan the first few months of 20201 and some light travel inside of Germany, I didn’t travel at all. While it’s still unclear whether we will be able to properly travel again in 2021, here are some destination that I would like to go. …which I am very grateful for!

Who Are You?

Have you ever deeply thought about this question? Many people probably haven’t, and they would simply answer with facts about what they consider their Self. However, there are many other perspectives on this, like Buddhism’s non-dualistic view that there simply is no separate Self. One perspective that resonated with me is Michael A. Singer’s viewpoint that he describes in chapter 3 of “The…

This post is inspired by the yearly State of the Apps episode on the Cortex Podcast.

Climbing - My Favorite Sport

Today, I want to write a short post about my favorite sport: Climbing!

Cold Showers

Have you ever taken a cold shower by choice? Cold showers are supposed to have several benefits, like improving your immune system and energizing you. They are also an easy and safe way to go outside your comfort zone. Cold showers are one of the things that I know are probably good for me that I want to integrate into my life again.

Weekly Summary and Recommendations

The third week of daily blogging is over! To be honest, I’m feeling the pressure of coming up with a new post every day, and I think you are feeling it as well, at least judging from the number of comments on my posts. 😅
