Look What I Get To Do

Read this slowly.

There's no rush here.

This morning your feet touched the floor.

Before a single thought had fully formed, before the day had made any demands, your body was already there. Steady. Ready. Carrying you forward without being asked.

Pause there for a moment.

Your feet touched the floor.

How many times have they done that? How many mornings has your body simply - shown up?

Think about what your body quietly does for you today.

Not the big things. The quiet ones.

The hands that type words that might change how someone sees themselves. The legs that carry you and your dog through the early morning before the world gets loud. The arms that reach for a warm drink in the stillness before anyone else is awake.

The eyes reading these words right now.

The breath moving through you as you do.

We spend so much time at war with our bodies.

Wishing them different. Pushing them harder. Noticing only what they can't do, what they don't look like, what they haven't managed to become yet.

And meanwhile - quietly, faithfully, without complaint - they just keep showing up.

Hot and tired at the end of a long day? That heat, that tiredness, that heaviness in your limbs - none of it would be possible without a body that feels. A body that is alive enough to be exhausted. Present enough to register the weight of a full life.

Even that is a gift.

But here is the thing that stopped me completely when I sat with this.

Every connection I have ever felt - every single one - was only possible because of this body.

The hug that said everything words couldn't. The hand smoothed over warm fur. The meal placed in front of someone I love. The words typed in the quiet of the evening that found their way to a woman I'll never meet and landed exactly where she needed them.

All of it. Every thread of connection.

Only possible because of this body.

These hands that type also hug. Also smooth. Also feed. Also reach out in the dark when someone needs holding.

All one thread. All this body. All the time.

The question that shifted everything for me - from Day 3 of my own journal, Returning - was simply this:

What does my body quietly do for me every single day?

And when I actually looked - really looked - the lens flipped completely.

From I do too much.

To look what I get to do.

Same life. Same body. Same kitchen, same dog walk, same desk.

Completely different frequency.

So today - just for a moment - put down the war.

Not forever. Not perfectly. Just for the length of this breath.

Look at these hands. Look at what they do. Look at what they make possible.

Look what you get to do.

Your body has been showing up for you every single day without being asked.

Maybe today you show up for it too. 💛

What did this bring up for you? I'd love to know what your body quietly does that you've been forgetting to notice. Tell me in the comments. 💛

If this landed and you're ready to come back to yourself - gently, one day at a time -Returning is a 30 day journal waiting for you.
