Eve Arnold · The Business Test

I’ve been writing on the internet for the last 6 years.

At first, for fun, then it turned into a decent business, then I got bored and built a product-based business.

Now I have a new approach, a new plan, and a new spark for what’s next.

This is my 30-day sprint, 30-micro digital products, and how I plan to do it all in 2 hours a day.

Let’s dig in.

Ship fast, ship often, look for signals

I work 9-to-5.

I have no plans to quit that job, but I do want to ship products. I love building stuff, solving problems, and making money. So to get into the swing of things, I’ve set myself a rather ambitious (but fun) challenge.

  • 30 micro-digital products

  • 30 days

  • 2x articles

  • 1x newsletter

Per day. I know that sounds pretty wild, but the plan is to show that someone who is totally ordinary can build stuff alongside their job in 2 hours a day.

Here’s how I’ll do it.

The parameters

If I’ve learned anything about building and writing on the internet, it is that speed is your best friend.

I’m motivated by the completion of things, and so here’s the criteria for my 30 micro-digital products:

  1. Has to be small enough to build in 1 hour or less

  2. Has to solve a singular problem

  3. Has to focus on one person

My avatar for this challenge is simple: me.

I will exclusively be creating tools that have helped or would have helped me create more on the internet. It ties into my day job because building products and services is what I do, but it also allows me to have a focus.

I want to minimise decision-making so I can just focus on doing.

I don’t want to be spending time dancing around ideas, trying to choose what to do, or wasting time overthinking things.

Having a clear person in mind of who I am building for helps remove any friction, so I can just get on with building and distributing.

I have created 3 micro digital products so far and tweaked one I already had.

They all solve a specific problem:

  1. How to write better headlines

  2. How to write on the internet with a 9-to-5

  3. How to make my digital products look professional

  4. How to come up with an idea for a micro-digital product

But I’m only counting 2 so far.

Which means I have 28 more micro-digital products to create. You will see that all of them solve a very small, very niche problem.

There will be 2 methods of marketing.

This newsletter and Medium. I’ll write one newsletter and two medium articles a day. The theme of the Medium articles will be about the micro-digital product I’m selling (or giving away for free).

Here are some examples so you can see how I link the writing to the offer at the end:

The newsletter will essentially serve as a place to keep me accountable.

Here I will document micro-digital products shipped and earnings.

Speaking of which:

  • 🧰 Micro-digital products shipped: 2

  • 💰 Earnings: $0

I know what you’re thinking — it’s not working, you’re failing, it’s a disaster. Well, remember it’s day 2. Most articles pick up traction over the course of weeks, and my expectation isn’t to make a penny for at least a week.

New things take time.

That’s all for today, catch you tomorrow!

Much love,

Eve :)
