Evan Bosma · Nutrition Elements Newsletter

If you’ve spent any time researching wellness products over the past few years, you’ve almost certainly come across CBD. It’s become one of the most widely discussed natural wellness ingredients available today, yet it’s also one of the most misunderstood. There are countless products on the market, endless marketing claims, and plenty of conflicting information online, which makes it difficult to know where to begin. One of the reasons I started Nutrition Elements was because I wanted to simplify wellness and help people make informed decisions based on education instead of hype. My goal with this newsletter is to answer the questions I hear every day from customers and give you practical, science-backed information that you can actually use.

If you’re completely new to CBD, you’re in the right place. In this guide, I’ll explain what CBD is, how it works inside the body, the different types of CBD available, how to choose a quality product, and how to build a routine that makes sense for your lifestyle. My hope is that by the end, you’ll feel much more confident navigating the world of CBD.

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of more than one hundred naturally occurring compounds known as cannabinoids that are found in the hemp plant. Unlike THC, CBD is completely non-intoxicating, meaning it does not produce the “high” that many people associate with cannabis. Hemp-derived CBD comes from plants containing less than 0.3 percent THC, making it federally compliant under the 2018 Farm Bill.

People choose to incorporate CBD into their wellness routines for many different reasons. Some enjoy taking it in the evening as part of a relaxing nighttime routine. Others prefer using it during the day to help maintain a sense of balance while navigating busy schedules or after physical activity as part of their recovery routine. At Nutrition Elements, we believe CBD works best when it’s viewed as one part of an overall wellness lifestyle built around healthy habits, quality nutrition, exercise, good sleep, and consistency.

One of the reasons CBD has attracted so much scientific attention is because of the body’s own endocannabinoid system, commonly referred to as the ECS. This system is made up of receptors found throughout the body that help regulate many everyday functions, including mood, sleep, stress response, and overall balance. Researchers continue to study how CBD interacts with this system and why so many people choose to make it part of their daily wellness routine.

Like nearly every aspect of health and wellness, every person is different. Factors such as metabolism, body weight, activity level, genetics, and overall lifestyle all influence how someone experiences CBD. That’s one reason I always encourage customers to focus on consistency and finding the routine that works best for them instead of comparing themselves to someone else’s experience.

Sleep Gummies

This is probably the question I answer more than any other.

Although CBD and THC both come from hemp, they behave very differently inside the body. CBD is non-intoxicating and is commonly used as part of everyday wellness routines. THC, on the other hand, is intoxicating and can produce noticeable effects depending on serving size and an individual’s tolerance.

At Nutrition Elements, many of our products contain only CBD, while others combine naturally occurring cannabinoids. Every product clearly states exactly what’s inside so you can choose the formulation that best fits your own wellness goals and comfort level.

Not all CBD products are created the same, and understanding the differences can help you make a better purchasing decision.

Full spectrum CBD contains CBD along with other naturally occurring hemp compounds, including trace amounts of THC that remain below the federally legal limit of 0.3 percent. Many people choose full spectrum products because of what is commonly referred to as the “entourage effect,” the idea that multiple naturally occurring hemp compounds may complement one another.

Broad spectrum CBD also contains multiple beneficial hemp compounds but is generally formulated without detectable THC, making it a popular middle-ground option for individuals who want more than CBD alone while avoiding THC.

CBD isolate is exactly what the name suggests: pure CBD with no additional hemp compounds. This option is often preferred by individuals who want to avoid THC entirely. If avoiding THC is important to you, always look for THC-free products and review the product’s third-party Certificate of Analysis before making your purchase.

Super Full Spectrum CBD Oil

If there’s one piece of advice I could give anyone shopping for CBD, it’s this: always buy products that are independently third-party lab tested.

A Certificate of Analysis, often called a COA, verifies both potency and purity. It confirms exactly what’s inside the product while also screening for contaminants. At Nutrition Elements, we believe transparency builds trust, which is why we publish our lab reports and encourage customers to review them.

Beyond lab testing, I always recommend looking for products that clearly state the amount of cannabinoids per serving, include a complete ingredient list, explain where the hemp comes from, and come from a company that’s willing to answer your questions. That’s one thing I take pride in. When customers call Nutrition Elements, there’s a good chance you’ll end up talking directly with me.

Reading a CBD label becomes much easier once you know what to look for. Start by checking the total amount of CBD contained in the package, then look at how much CBD is provided per serving, since that’s the amount you’ll actually be taking each time. Next, pay attention to the serving size itself, whether that’s one gummy, one capsule, or a measured amount of tincture, and note how many total servings are included in the container.

I also recommend checking where the hemp was grown and how it was extracted. CO₂ extraction is widely considered the gold standard because it produces clean, high-quality extracts. Finally, make sure the package includes a current Certificate of Analysis, usually accessible through a QR code or batch number. These simple steps go a long way toward helping you purchase products you can trust.

Pain & Swelling CBG, CBD, Terpene Blend

One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that there’s no single “best” CBD product. The best product is the one that naturally fits into your lifestyle and daily routine.

Tinctures are popular because they offer flexible, drop-by-drop serving sizes and are often absorbed relatively quickly when placed under the tongue, with many people noticing effects within about 15 to 30 minutes that may last four to six hours. Gummies are another customer favorite because they’re pre-measured, portable, and easy to make part of a consistent daily routine. Since they pass through the digestive system, they generally take 45 to 90 minutes before they’re fully absorbed and often last six to eight hours.

Capsules and softgels provide many of the same advantages for people who prefer a flavorless option with consistent servings, while topicals are applied directly to specific areas of the body for targeted support rather than whole-body use.

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is assuming that more CBD automatically means better results. In my experience, wellness rarely works that way.

I almost always recommend starting with the serving size suggested on the product label. Give your body several days to adjust before making any changes. If you decide you’d like to increase your serving, do so gradually and allow another three to five days before evaluating how you feel. More importantly, give your routine time. Many people judge a supplement after only a day or two, when consistency over several weeks is often much more meaningful.

Body weight can provide a helpful starting point. Individuals under 130 pounds often begin with about 10 to 15 milligrams, those between 130 and 200 pounds frequently start between 15 and 25 milligrams, while individuals over 200 pounds often begin around 20 to 30 milligrams. Moderate and stronger serving sizes can increase from there depending on your goals and individual response, but there is no universal serving size that works for everyone.

One of the reasons CBD has become so popular is because it fits into many different wellness routines. Some people choose it as part of their nighttime ritual, often pairing CBD with CBN to help support healthy sleep habits. Others use it during busy or stressful days as part of their overall approach to maintaining balance. Many active individuals incorporate CBD creams, roll-ons, tinctures, or capsules into their recovery routines after workouts or long days on their feet.

Whatever your reason, I believe the most important thing is finding a routine that fits your lifestyle and remaining consistent with it.

CBD + CBG Lotion

Customers often ask whether CBD will make them feel high. The answer is no. CBD is non-intoxicating. Products that contain THC may produce noticeable effects, which is why it’s always important to carefully read the product description before purchasing.

Another common question involves drug testing. While THC-free products contain non-detectable levels of THC, anyone subject to routine testing should review the product’s Certificate of Analysis and may prefer broad spectrum or isolate products for additional peace of mind. People also ask how long CBD takes to work. The answer depends largely on the format. Gummies and capsules generally take longer because they’re digested, tinctures are often absorbed more quickly under the tongue, and topicals remain localized to the area where they’re applied.

Finally, many people ask whether CBD can be used every day. For many individuals, CBD becomes part of a consistent wellness routine. Always follow the serving instructions provided on the label and consult your healthcare provider before beginning any new supplement regimen.
