Leeds United will begin the new Premier League season with almost a full-fit squad, with just two players missing from the squad to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon. It means all the club’s new signings, including Nico Elvedi, who trained with the team for the first time yesterday and is in contention to feature for the first time when his new side run out at the City Ground.
Leeds boss Daniel Farke will be without Willy Gnonto due to a hamstring injury, with Gabriel Gudmundsson also ruled out of the season opener.
“Willy Gnonto will miss this game because of his hamstring injury,” explained Farke, speaking at his first pre-match conference of the campaign.
“We hope to have him back in team training soon but he will definitely miss this game. Also Gabby Gudmundsson will miss, so those two will definitely miss this first match. All the others as things stand will be available.”
Leeds will have a new-look line-up at the City Ground, with goalkeeper James Trafford and winger Harry Wilson looking nailed on to start, while Elvedi and Tarik Muharemovic will also be pushing for a place in the starting line-up.
Speaking of Elvedi, Farke added; “It was his first time with us yesterday on the training pitch. His CV speaks for itself. He has played 11 years for one club and it says a lot about him as a person and human being. He is spoken as a club legend at Gladbach, which is a big club in Germany.
“He comes with fresh energy and ready for this challenge, which is what we wanted.
