Thank you Nan Tepper, Amy Gabrielle, Amy Benavides, Tess Clarkson, Heather Sweeney, and many others for tuning into my live video with Rona Maynard! Join me for my next live video in the app.
In my first Musings on Magazines: The Story Behind the Story conversation, I was delighted to welcome 52 attendees to hear former Chatelaine Editor-in-Chief Rona Maynard and me reflect on two very different pieces. We revisited Rona’s editor’s letter about depression, a piece that not only resonated deeply with readers but ultimately changed the course of her own life. It’s a powerful reminder that the stories we tell can have an impact we never anticipate.
In a lighter note, I pulled back the curtain on the behind-the-scenes story of writing about my appearance in a small role on the soap opera Guiding Light.
As someone who spent the 1990s and early aughts editing national magazines, I wanted to create a series that revisits the stories that shaped us, both on the page and behind the scenes.
What I love most about these conversations is discovering how stories continue to resonate long after publication, often in ways none of us could have predicted when we were writing and editing them.
I’m looking forward to continuing the series with more editors, writers, and publishing insiders who have stories behind the stories to tell.
If you missed our conversation, I hope you’ll watch the replay. And stay tuned. I have more magazine editors, writers, and publishing insiders lined up to share the stories behind the stories.
