Countach

I'd like to be driving my Land Cruiser one day, and come upon a Porsche or a 5 series BMW on the freeway. Maybe I would give the driver a nod, as if to say, "Hey dude, nice ride." And when he would give me the courtesy "My car kicks so much ass over your car, it's not even funny; and now I am feeling better about myself at your expense, thanks man" return nod, that's moment that I would push the…

Forty Four

The birthday list is back, but it’s not quite what you think. Oh, also the blog is back.

Painted Shield by Painted Shield

I’m not the biggest Mason Jennings fan. In fact, I walked out of his last show it was so bad. Needless to say, my hopes were not very high to see him collaborating with the guitarist from my favorite band. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This album rips.

Fine Line by Harry Styles

I’ve always had a soft spot for some good pop, but this one took me by surprise. I wasn’t that big a fan of Harry’s first album, but his sophomore effort is my jam. Probably because it’s a breakup album—and we all know how I love a good breakup album.

Mine as Well by Eager Seas

Eager Seas is a local (to me) band, but don’t let that fool you, their songwriting is as good as it gets making for the perfect soundtrack to a lazy afternoon.

Ceremony by Phantogram

I got hooked on Phantogram after hearing their third album, Three. Sarah’s vocal melodies and Josh’s penchant for old school hip hop beats create this mash up that is unlike anything I had heard before. Ceremony is the next iteration of that sound.

Run the Jewels 2 by Run the Jewels

I’m late to the game, but when RTJ4 dropped this summer, I fell in love and then went back to previous albums, and found this one and fell in love a second time. Is that even possible?

Everyday Life by Coldplay

Coldplay explores new sonic landscapes in this album, ditching the pop leanings and moving back into the territory that made them famous in the first place.

Gigaton by Pearl Jam

The wait was so long that I had nearly accepted the fact that the best days of my favorite band were behind them—I was wrong. Gigaton is easily their best album in two decades; showing a new creativity that I didn't think they band had in them but now I couldn't be more excited for their future.

Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins

Few albums had an impact on me like Siamese Dream. At the time, I don’t even think I understood all of what was going on musically at the time, but as I listen back now, it’s so incredible to pick apart all of the sounds, and even the musical patterns that are evident on this album.

Forty

For the past seven years, I’ve been writing these lists on my birthday of things that I’ve learned in the past year. This year happens to be 40. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that this year has, personally, been the hardest year of my life. This may come as a surprise to some of you who “know” me from our online social circles. It just goes to show that everybody is going through something.

Thirty Nine

For the past six years, I’ve been writing these lists on my birthday of things that I’ve learned in the past year. This years, compared to others, is much more introspective. I guess that’s just what happens when you get old. Follow the links to read Thirty Eight , Thirty Seven , Thirty Six , Thirty Five and Thirty Four . Next year will likely be my last, Forty. It’s been a lot of fun to think…

Thirty Eight

For the past five years, I’ve been writing these lists on my birthday of things that I’ve learned in the past year. Looking over this and some of the previous years, it’s funny to see how I expand on certain topics, or discover more about myself as time goes on. Follow the links to read Thirty Seven , Thirty Six , Thirty Five and Thirty Four . This year wasn’t necessarily hard, but it wasn’t that…

Thirty Seven

For the past three years, I’ve been writing these lists on my birthday of things that I’ve learned in the past year. You can read Thirty Six , Thirty Five and Thirty Four if you’d like. I’ve seen a lot more of these lists pop up recently and I’ve seen some rebuffs towards them as being ridiculous. I don’t pretend to think I have all this wisdom and it is my duty to bestow it on you, the reader.…

Thirty Six

In a birthday tradition another year has passed and another list has arrived. Be sure to check out the others: Thirty Five and Thirty Four . For this year, here are thirty six things I’ve learned in thirty six years.

Thirty Five

Much like last years popular Thirty Four , here are thirty five things I’ve learned in thirty five years.

Thirty Four

Thirty four things I’ve learned in thirty four years.
