I’m not sure why I thought of Fred Exley’s unfortunate follow-up to A Fan’s Notes as I penned this, but now it seems completely appropriate.
Aside: My brother John sent me the copy of A Fan’s Notes pictured above a few years before his death in April 1994, same with American Psycho and The Sportswriter. It’s probably high time I reread all of them.
In any event, dear reader, I’m writing today to put this odd little writing project on hiatus for a bit. I don’t know if it will be a few weeks or forever. Apologies for being vague. I’m not trying to be mysterious, I’m trying to figure out if I’ve come from somewhere deep in the past or far in the future. More importantly, I’m trying to figure out what’s next for me here in the present.
Simply put, I need a break.
For those of you who might feel a twinge of loss next Friday when my heretofore regular weekly email does not pop up, I thank you—for reading and commenting, for clicking the silly “like” button, and for sending me missives. All of it lifted me more than you know. And make no mistake, I needed those words of kindness and the votes of confidence more than I realized.
So then, as always and forever—
Love, love, love, Erin
