“Adopt the pace of nature. Her secret is patience.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
A cold breeze is gently blowing against my window as I begin to write this letter to you. The arrival of this year sent me into a deep contemplation about how I would like to spend the precious gift of this time I’ve been given, and I made a decision to step away from social media for one year.
Motherhood has a way of stripping back all that is not essential. Our precious children require so much from us, so when we discover a pocket of free time to ourselves it can become almost paralyzing to decide how to spend it.
Too many times over the past year I’ve found myself reaching for my phone in those rare moments. My intentions were usually good --checking in on my friends or to gain inspiration for my homeschool. Over the last year I tried taking breaks from social media, setting app limits, even removing most apps from my phone, but none of it felt like enough. The pull is just too strong.
As I evaluate how I want to spend my time, I recorded a podcast episode to share more about my decision to step away from social media for 2026. I’ve been on these platforms since the days of MySpace and I figure now is as good a time as any to take a break and see what happens!
I intend to use this time to write more, read more, and gain clarity around the next iteration of my business. I am going to trust that my business and podcast will continue to reach the right people slowly and intentionally.
May this be the year that we travel a slower path filled with deeper meaning and connection. Whatever you decide to carry with you into this year, and whatever you decide to leave behind, my hope is that it brings you more joy, more peace, and more purpose.
P.S. Have you ever taken a break from social media or considered taking one? I’d love to hear from you!
