Those are the numbers the House and Senate need to reach to overturn Governor Kelly’s vetoes. Let’s do everything we can to make sure they do not have enough votes!
Legislators are set to return to Topeka on Thursday. They could take up any of the vetoed bills below at any time. We expect they will adjourn sometime on Friday or Saturday. Just send emails as soon as you can. And please encourage others to do the same.
Below you’ll find the bills Governor Kelly vetoed along with links to send an email to your representative and senator. The bills and action items are divided in the following sections:

HB 2372 would allow county sheriffs to hold undocumented people in jails without a warrant signed by a judge, expand qualified immunity for untrained ICE agents, and make a new crime for approaching/observing a first responder (e.g. ICE officer) within 25 feet. This does not make our communities safer.
SB 254 revives a ban on in-state tuition for undocumented students, even those who have attended and graduated from Kansas schools.

Just learned that a dangerous silencer/shot gun provision was snuck into bill HB 2501. Mom’s Demand Action is urging people to ask the governor to veto this bill.

It even imposes enhanced penalties for felonies committed with these devices, an acknowledgment that these devices make crimes even more deadly.
