Keanu Reeves Keeps his Promise to this Young Woman

6 years ago, he promised 19 year old Bianca that they’d play a game of chess together, and on Thursday, he kept that promise. Keanu is as radiant as they say. Generosity and presence basically emanate from this man. He has a reputation in this crazy industry, for being “genuinely nice.” (Something I hope to embody and leave with everyone I meet too.)

How did this happen? A cold email! Bianca felt like too many woman were being excluded from the dialog of chess, so she set out to make a film about it! She emailed him her story and asked if he’d play her at a game. Before long, he also became her executive producer on the movie.

I and my team, joined a group supporting the film and Keanu for a private lunch prior to the event- don’t think “high-end snooty restaurant” either, we had authentic Mexican food in Pamona! My favorite. Seeing him sit with Bianca, meet her friends and family, and getting to talk to him msyself, made me feel this sense of calm, like he arrived to learn and support, without the glits and glam. No photos allowed, just human presence.

So how did I end up at The Conrad Los Angeles, getting to play dress up for three days, professionally? Culminating in these events? No surprises here: Bianca cold emialed me to support the film and then made the ask I fell in love with- “This is one of my first red carpet’s, will you help dress me?
