The Based Book Sale deals have come around once again. It is time to stock up on great indie books on Kindle for $0.99 or free. Take a look at the sale here:
Here are the books that are a part of this sale that I have read and fully recommend.
A brilliantly gonzo alternate history where, instead of God-fearing Pilgrims, Satan-worshiping pirates found what eventually becomes the United States. This bizarro United States is just the backdrop to a story about a secret assassin working for the Chief Justice discovering a secret that will bring down the entire system. Check out my longer recommendation below:
Ronald Reagan has a mechanized robotic suit, Billy Graham infiltrates the Vatican with ninja stealth skills, Margaret Thatcher… well there’s something very odd going on with her, too. A fun adventure story set in the 1980s that reimagines the president as a secret superhero. Just a ton of fun. Read my longer recommendation here:
A teenager with the ability to command the dead faces a problem she never anticipated: The return of her dead brother, brought back to life and commanded by another more powerful necromancer who promises to expand her powers, but at the cost of her moral principles and her friendships.
This is a magical heist story that primarily follows another one of the teens from “The Drama Club.” He controls illusionary magic and has convinced himself that he is the only person that truly exists. But a larger and more powerful organization places him in a position where he might just have to accept that he’s not the only person in the universe.
This is the second book of a magic school adventure series (think Harry Potter but different). The book picks up directly with the aftermath after the jam-packed first week of school covered in the first book, and continues revealing mysteries about this world that is similar to our own (not including the magic) but oddly different in others. If you’re into YA, or magic schools or both, you’ll find a lot to like here.
Also, you can get the first book in the Rachel Griffin series for free here:
L. Jagi Lamplighter also has a Substack here:
I absolutely love A Princess of Mars, and last year I began reading the Tarzan series. Tarzan of the Apes is a wonderful adventure book that is better than it has any right to be, and its first two sequels place Tarzan in new and interesting predicaments. Great adventure books even now, over 100 years later. I have more detailed impressions of the first three Tarzan books here:
One of the things that strikes me about G.K. Chesterton’s writing is that even though it was written over 100 years ago, how incredibly thought-provoking and prescient his insights about the follies of his age are. And they are almost still entirely applicable to the follies of ours. They are so applicable that I’ve often joked (but not entirely joking) that GKC was a prophet foretelling of a future that we are now living in.
Also, if you have yet to pick up any of my books, they are on sale as well for free or for $0.99.
If you have read my books, Thank You! Please consider leaving a review on Amazon and/or Goodreads. It would help me out tremendously!
Also, I have updated the covers of all my books in the Presidents of the Uncanny States of America series in the last few months, too. Please leave a comment to tell me what you think of them.
A third-grader discovers an abandoned thirty-year-old lunchbox whose contents talks to him and helps him with his schoolwork, but should the entity inside the lunchbox be trusted?
President Pierce is troubled by personal tragedy and cannot escape reliving the moment no matter how hard he tries. One month into his presidency, the vice president arrives with information about a conspiracy, but before Pierce knows it, the vice president is murdered and President Pierce is certainly next.
Al Gore wins the 2000 presidential election and is gifted with the METTA, a device that can transport his consciousness back in time. Gore faces disaster after disaster, reliving his presidency over and over, unable to escape the cycle of failure that plagues him… until he discovers a secret of the multiverse that involves himself.
Newly elected President Trump (circa 2017) is visited by the ghosts of former US Presidents in an effort to reform his soul. Will they succeed? You decide by choosing your own ending!
