Theophylact, Archbishop of Ohrid (venerated by the Eastern Orthodox Church on December 31), was a renowned biblical scholar and commentator. His works serve as the most authoritative transmission of St. John Chrysostom’s biblical insights, on which he based nearly all of his own commentaries. His excellence as an exegete led to Latin translations of his writings. St. Thomas Aquinas drew on them for his Catena Aurea; they influenced Erasmus, and even the great Cornelius a Lapide frequently incorporated Theophylact’s insights into his own commentaries. You can find his commentaries in Greek/Latin at the PG 123-126.
