MSNBC et al. are asking guests about Trump’s reprehensible posts on the Reiner family tragedy, shoehorning questions into otherwise unrelated interviews. This must stop.
Trump obviously hates Reiner. He hates any famous person who refuses to fawn; that entire category of people is his enemy. So Trump sees opportunity in the tragedy to steal attention from this enemy—something he sickly believes constitutes a “win.” Who knows how much Trump actually believes what he says about the Reiner family, but he knows these posts are journalistic clickbait.
This compounds Trump’s inhumanity, because he likely does not even believe what he writes; but he knows what to write that will draw attention. The media should reflect on this. Reporters should ask themselves, honestly: who cares what Trump says? There is no national importance to his posts on this tragedy. Trump is sick and wrong, but just as news outlets refuse to name mass shooters with manifestos, amplifying these words only rewards Trump with the attention he feeds o—and pours salt into the Reiner family wound.
Just note these sick posts and move on.
